You do know what happened to those guys, right?

First, that site launched a lawsuit when a chiropractor said that they themselves were frauds, and they lost.

At trial, under a heated cross-examination by Negrete, Barrett conceded that he was not a Medical Board Certified psychiatrist because he had failed the certification exam.

This was a major revelation since Barrett had provided supposed expert testimony as a psychiatrist and had testified in numerous court cases.

Barrett also had said that he was a legal expert even though he had no formal legal training.

The most damming testimony before the jury, under the intense cross-examination by Negrete, was that Barrett had filed similar defamation lawsuits against almost 40 people across the country within the past few years and had not won one single one at trial.

During the course of his examination, Barrett also had to concede his ties to the AMA, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

Second, they lost an anti-SLAPP case, where the plaintiff proved that the so-called defamation lawsuit was a retaliatory one against protected speech (the alternative doctor defending himself against their accusations)

Ken, discussing the theories and effectiveness of TCM is probably going to work best if you bring up specific claims made by practitioners, and then we discuss them one at a time.

Because the likelihood is that some of it has been shown to have a positive effect, some of it is debunkable and some of it simply hasn't been scientifically tested.

The major issues with TCM, or any traditional medical system, is mainly that very little of it has undergone double blind peer reviewed studies at sufficient levels to be statistically useful and even among those areas which have received investigation it is unlikely that the theory behind why the methods work is correct about how the method actually works.

Which, believe it or not, is the situation with the vast majority of pharma on the market as well. Check out the Doctor's Promotional material that drug companies send out. Nearly every one has a section that begins "We have no idea why this drug works, but we have three theories and here they are" followed by vastly different and even contradictory models explaining effects.

If TBK did the following, I might consider replying:

1. Actually knew what the **** he was talking about as opposed to posting random **** that "somebody that should know" might have written [fallacy of Appeal to Authority and Argument for Ignorance].
2. Grew several inches so he might be classified as something other than a troll.
[insert several more random, impossible feats for TBK to perform].

Just so everyone understands (FITZ) legit questions and responses will be in the sticky. I don't want Quickfeet wasting his time between 2 threads.

Just seeing TBK link with no rebuttal gives you an idea what's coming here. If it gets to ugly it will be culled for relevant criticism and debate and the rest will be trollshidoed.

What's not legitimate about posting a link where you can read all about acupuncture yourself.

It is the second time you've decided to **** up this thread with the same link. I'm not going to spend time moving your dumbass posts when I can just get you removed from here permanetly.

It'll save me and the others time and effort. Take the same title and complain in YMAS.

I would like to ask.

Does it work? Does anyone here actually have experience one way or the other?
I train with a woman who goes to acupuncture and swears by it. She suffers from a great deal of incurable ailments that are genetic. Could this be a placebo effect?

Of course, as I have said in the past, If I wanted needles stuck in me to feel good, I would do Heroin.

TCM? Does it work. Yes. Does everyone who claims to practice it, practice it effectively? No. No more than any Western doctor. There's quacks in every facet of healthcare, and I work very closely with doctors on a daily basis. Speaking from personal experience, I've seen some TCM first aid that was very effective for dislocations, sprains, etc... I've also used a little bit of accupressure to relieve headaches, and so forth.

Qualifications please before I move your post. This is similar to TBK's post but the other side of the spectrum.

Qualifications please before I move your post. This is similar to TBK's post but the other side of the spectrum.

Qualifications such as?

My experience with Western Medicine:
9 years working in healthcare, including 5 as a cardiovascular technician, and now currently working in healthcare industry as a trainer for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals. I'm not posting any certifications here, sorry, that's too personal in nature for any internet forum.

My experience with TCM: being on the recieving end of it when injured in sparring and training, and witnessing that same thing at times when others were injured. Also, following the advice of some practitioners of TCM for other health issues. My current teacher is not a practitioner of TCM to the extent of being considered a doctor by that community, but he has trained under one for several years.

If those aren't qualifying enough, then move my post wherever you feel its needed to go.

I have no experience of the acupuncture on either side of the needle, but I've seen anecdotal evidence of TCM tui na deep massage helping my friends with various sports injuries. No chi claims involved.
