Never having posted on this subforum before, I'm not sure if this is the right place. So apologies in advance if it's not.

Does anyone know how one can start a Miletich Fighting Systems affiliate gym (outside of the US)? What training/comeptition credentials do you need to have before you'd even be considered, and how long is the training program like to become a certified instructor?

I've seen Pat's training tapes and I'm truly highly impressed by his instructional skills, not to mention the fact that he's produced several champions. There aren't currently any good MMA schools where I live, so I'm seriously thinking of working something out with a close friend who has an extensive and impressive competition experience in standup fighting and has decent grappling skills.

Money is our main problem, so I'd like to know how long it'll take and how much. Our preference is to train with Pat himself directly of course, if it's possible. Main goals are to train fighters (and ourselves) to take part in local tournaments and also tournaments abroad, and basically to promote MMA.

I know there are several people on this board who train with MFS affiliates, so thought I'd ask here.

Thanks!

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the links. Looks like a great crew you guys got there.

I was paying close attention to what Pat was teaching the class, very impressive in the details!

Also noticed the way the websites were worded, do you guys have problems attracting/keeping students when you ramp up the intensity and contact levels too? This seems to be a common problem everywhere, it's also this way at my current gym (but my instructor doesn't care and ramps it up to drive away those who're not serious about training).

Just so I understand you...you wouldn't be an instructor right?

PPlate,

Just so you know, I run my own club (www.nycombatsambo.com) and teach at Miletich only once a week. But, to answer your questions, there is no retention problem at MNY or NYCS. We are just honest about the level of training and attract people who want that. I think retention problems come when people are not honest with prospective students. Having said that, my club is not large (but I don't want a huge mega club). I have about 100 students...30 of whom are very active. I am not sure about MNY, but my classes are always packed. I work them very hard and they keep coming back.

Not me. But I'm interested to follow along to go train with Pat if I can save enough money.
