I don't think there's anything deliberate there, he just doesn't know. He doesn't have a reference point for the importance of position in grappling.

I vividly remember how I did not have a clue about what was going on on the mat when I went to watch a class at the newly opened Yamasaki BJJ Academy. This was in 1996 or so (that is my main excuse...:)) , and I was a KF guy.
