Iron wood, or kamagong/ebony? I know some people refer to kamagong/ebony as iron wood, but there actually is such a thing as iron wood, and its a completely different species. Anyhoo, I do have a set of kamagong sticks, 30x1' Slightly warped, but after shipping they only came to $40. As a weapon, they definitely would crack skulls, but as a training tool Im somewhat ambivillent. While heavy sticks do develop endurance, Ive since switched to training with lighter sticks to develop power. I found that the heavier sticks would create the feel of powerful strikes, but the power was in fact due to the weight of the sticks/momemtum rather than my swing. I found switching over to lighter sticks, and no longer being able to rely on the weight of the heavier sticks, has gone a long way to increasing my power. And on another note, hardwoods eat rattan like pac-man eats dots. If you do partner training, you will have many angry partners, who will need to purchase rattan much more frequently. Also, on a safety factor, hard-wood fails dangerously. It doesnt shred, and show signs of wear like rattan, it splinters, and explodes.

You don't mean just generic hardwood sticks, right?

My instructor has some oval shaped "bone breakers" that are ironwood and he had to have the specially made. No idea how much they cost. Sorry.

He means anything other than rattan. Wood fails catasrophically, rattan give much warning.
