I believe that you only went to Three Tigers Martial Arts to try and discredit them.
The students from Three Tigers Martial Arts are doing that quite well themselves.
The review, however, appears to be simply a first hand account of what he saw. It wasn't even disputed by the owner, though she did indicate that they teach more at the school than he witnessed.
There is an established set of rating guidelines (http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=48577) that are designed to make the review process objective. Despite your protests, subjective bias can't change the fact that without "full range striking and proven success in limited restriction, top level competitions" a school should NOT be given a score of 8 in the Striking category.
I suggest going back to karate. That would be silly... He actually fights.

Dear Airman Kai - On 8/16 at 2:01 p.m., you said your girlfriend WAS looking for a school to practice martial arts. On 8/23 at 2:58 p.m., you stated your gym has a karate program that you are not affiliated with. My question is: "Why wouldn't your girlfriend attend the karate program where you practice MMA?" Next question: "I know that not all martial art schools post on Bullshido, but within the Belleville area, there must be at least a dozen martial art schools. I'm sure that your girlfriend must have visited more than just Three Tigers Martial Arts. Where can I find your opinion for the other school(s)?" It's strange that your girlfriend would drive across town to visit a dojo when there are at least three or four closer to your East Main dojo. I believe that you only went to Three Tigers Martial Arts to try and discredit them. Everyone has an opinion; and luckily, we live in the United States where we can express them freely. Please let me know what other school(s) your girlfriend visited. The few years that I have been associated with martial arts, it's more of a family atmosphere and people you can trust. You said you haven't taken a karate class since the age of nine. I suggest going back to karate.
Who lied to you and told you martial arts are about family and trust, instead of fighting? That's just what people say who can't fight. Similar to poor people that say money doesn't matter.

superstar, there's a wondeful article called, "Paragraphs, and when to use them." It can be found at this link (http://www.bobbrooke.com/WritersCorner/paragraphswhentouse.htm).
As for why I would not have my girlfriend attend the same facility I do? It's called a, "conflict of interest," and I try to avoid them.

I wasn't under the impression that I would be graded on my writing skills. By the way, you should check your punctuation (Examples: 1. "Paragraphs, and when to use them." - should not have a comma after paragraphs. 2. As for why I would not have my girlfriend attend the same facility I do? It's called a, "conflict of interest," and I try to avoid them. - should be written as follows: As for why I would not have my girlfriend attend the same facility I do, it's called a, "conflict of interest," and I try to avoid them.

superstar, check your checking. If you want to be pedantic. it's actually:
"conflict of interest",
(punctuation goes outside the quotes) and I think you're looking for a simicolon after I do. Now stop ruining this amazing thread with your queens English.
Is that your review for three tigers, or your own school, next to your post? Who teaches striking at that school?

As competant as you seem to be at correcting grammar, your reading comprehension skills lack severely. Please see the guidelines for rating a dojo, and score according to the parameters, not pride and sentiment.

These ratings are dramatically out of line with the scoring guidlines found here (http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=48577).
Without a full ring or cage, a 10 is a completely unwarranted score under Equipment.
A score of 9 in Gym Size is reserved for facilities of 5000-10000 square feet. According to the Three Tigers website it is 2500 square feet, with 1000 square feet of mat space. This would be scored as a 7 or 8.
A 10 in Striking indicates "Superior excellence including A-level competitors". None of the instructors listed on the school's website are recognizable as "A-level competitors" and nothing in their biographies indicates their status as such. In fact, without a successful record in "limited restriction, top level competitions" (local or regional competitions do not qualify) even a score of 8 is too high.
A 7 in Grappling instruction is specifically for "Compehensive grappling with success in local/regional competition". Karate is, by it's very nature, NOT comprehensive grappling. The school's website does not indicate any specific grappling curriculum, nor does it indicate a successful record in any grappling competition. Without these elements it cannot score higher than a 4-5.
An 8 in Weapons instruction indicates "Hard contact with reasonable safety gear (pain and/or some blood)". This level of contact is very unusual for weapons training and approaches the level of intensity found at Dog Brother gatherings. There is nothing found on the www.threetigers.org (http://www.threetigers.org) website nor in the owners comments to indicate that this is the norm.
Again, this is NOT a subjective rating system.

It's great to see everybody's comments. It's easy to "spin" anyone's opinion, but you know what they say about opinions. I'm surprised that someone hasn't sent one out saying that their dad can beat up my dad. There's no doubt about it that karate is different than MMA. Airman Kai will never achieve what he set out to achieve. The proof is in the pudding. Farewell.

Guidelines are not subjective. If you disagree with the grading system, explain what you think isn't being addressed after giving the proper score.
I'm surprised that someone hasn't sent one out saying that their dad can beat up my dad.
That would be counterproductive and childish, and so far that seems to be the only level you are willing to play at. Perhapse if you could bring facts into evidence, or perhapse video of real training, we would be able to have a meaningful discussion.
There's no doubt about it that karate is different than MMA.
No one disputes that, and no Karate dojo would be rated that way, or would we expect it to be. Theres nothing wrong with Karate as a Sport, Passtime, or means of self defense as long as the training is appropriate to the discription.
Airman Kai will never achieve what he set out to achieve.
Actually, your posts have reinforced his position, through your inability to bring any evidence to the contrary to the table. You as a student are more damning than he was as an observer.
The proof is in the pudding. Farewell.
Thank you for your attempt at reasoned debate, however feeble.
Goodbye.

I'm surprised that someone hasn't sent one out saying that their dad can beat up my dad.We don't know anything about him. We've got some idea of how you train, though...
There's no doubt about it that karate is different than MMA.Combat efficacy?
Airman Kai will never achieve what he set out to achieve. He set out to review your school, and achieved that goal admirably. What you and your fellow students from Three Tigers set out to achieve is unclear. Thus far, it seems as though all you've accomplished is embarassing your school.
The proof is in the pudding.Several posters have asked several times to SEE that proof.
Farewell.We'll see...

can we have the posts by "superstar" trollshido'd or at least remove their ranking score? it is an obvious attempt to raise the average scores of the school with no thought put into how we rank schools.

I'm guessing that is directed at me, since Kai has already visited. I'm having trouble finding time to do a review of a school I'm dieing to visit that's two hours away from me. It's not likely I'm going to make it to your school any time soon. However, I'll make time if you'd like to pay my round trip airfare from NC. Wouldn't video be much easier and cheaper, though?
But I can almost guarantee from what I've read that I wouldn't be impressed. I don't impress easily. Unless you have the "extra special, deadly for real karate", it's not going to surprise or impress me.
Is Ms. Pitassi still "considering" allowing a video to be made?

I'd like to see Phrost establish a policy regarding ratings. I've refrained from rating schools I haven't personally seen, but others occasionally do so, just to skew the rankings. However, the numbers I used in my earlier post seem to be far more accurate (though still generous) than either score given by students of the school.
We could:
Remove reviews that are dramatically out of line with the rating criteria as well as reviews from posters who have not been to the school in question
Leave all reviews and explicitly allow any poster to make reviews based on available info to compensate for excessive scoring
Some other option that takes into account the fact that people will both inflate scores and review schools that they've never seen.
