I hate to find myself agreeing with this sleaze ball.

Pandering to a national audience in a bid for the VP nomination?
Metal detectors, armed campus police, and more awareness on the part of the student body and faculty for warning signs to name a few. I am not sure if arming everyone is the answer. However, if there were several people in the college campus with guns, I don't think there would have been as many dead. I could be wrong though.
You’re not wrong. Short of figuring out why people go nuts like this and preventing it (something which we are nowhere near doing) the only way to deal with this type of thing is to stop it as soon as it starts. Armed security and concealed carry permits for those who want them and qualify are the best solution.
The problem is that most people won’t buy into this and will prefer the illusion of safety that a notional “gun free” zone provides over the concrete safety that the means to fight back provides.
Say what you will, the man has great hair. While I think everyone armed in a state with pretty lax laws concerning concealed carry and icehouses everywhere has the potential to be a problem, it does make for a far more polite society. I see LEO's being against this as well as civil groups looking to limit the number of firearms. I wonder how this will help GGH to cement his legacy and get a nod to join the ticket.

Yeah, but Edwards has even better.

Well, under Texas law, not everyone can get a CHL (http://tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us/statutes/docs/GV/content/htm/gv.004.00.000411.00.htm#411.171.00) and you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get one. Since the age requirement in Texas is 21, unless you are active duty military or LEO or former military or LEO, high school students and most university students stil wouldn't be able to carry legally.
I see LEO's being against this as well as civil groups looking to limit the number of firearms.
Local law enforcement groups were in favor of the CHL law.

It does seem like he's been trying to get more national recognition. Maybe he and Edwards can enter a beauty pagent together.
The CHL doesn't require one to be a judge or DA to carry in TX. It also doesn't require one to have a verifiable business need to carry one either. So comparatively speaking that is fairly lax.
Also, I was talking about LEOs not favoring this expansion of the law.
btw, Perry beats Edwards in a walk. The Texan entrant beats the Carolinas most of the time in any pageant.

I think having everyone armed may cause more deaths long term. If you have a load of unstable paranoid people believing they may be shot at any moment giving them all guns doesnt make for good times. This isnt a dig at anyone, after a massacre you'd be understandably high strung.

He isn't saying "give everyone a gun", he was saying it is silly that we have so many rules about where a person can legally carry a firearm.
To obtain a concealed carry license in TX, you are required to submit to an FBI background check, give a list of every arrest you have ever had, and every place you have lived over the last 10 years (could be 5 I don't recall). You also must sit through a 10 hour class, and pass a shooting test.

The dude might be pandering but he's pandering with common sense.
Once again I'm forced to quote Jeff Cooper...
"An unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not over come by fleeing from it."

I am against giving everyone a gun.
Isn't that what he wants to do?
Solve all our problems by giving everyone a gun?
Maybe I should just RTFA.

Why have a responsible, well armed citizenry to immediately respond to a crisis when you can just dial 911?:tongue3:
