obviously, people train to grapple in gis. what might be the point of this? I mean, it is not street usable because there are no holds for you. I train in no gi grappling, and I don't see the point of much else. why do you do it and what are the advantages?

People don't wear shirts and pants on the street? Nobody grabs handfuls of clothing in a streetfight?
.....right.
I sometimes train with my buddies wearing old t-shirts and shorts, and allow grabbing clothing. I have pulled off throws and collar chokes with slightly modified grips on t-shirts, and I imagine it'd be easier with sweatshirts and coats.
Besides, I'm not really worried about self-defense, so I just do what's fun for me.
