during a recent visit to the glock website i read that glock has about 60 percent of all law enforcement pistol sells. does anyone know where that number could be proven or refuted? granted i see alot of leo carrying glocks. the kentucky state police recently switched to them. yet 60 percent sound really high.

The fact that the Glock company was lying about how much it sells to sell more.

...though I'm still with Abusivemelon on this one.

It's a pretty reasonable figure if you look around.

GLOCK is VERY aggressive in marketing to police departments. They make deals that others weren't willing to make until recently, doing things like buying the department's old guns--and their product is nearly perfect for people who don't train very much or even really understand guns, but want a reliable semi-automatic with a lot of capacity. That's generally the kind of person who makes purchasing decisions for a police department.

Smith and Wesson is back with a vengeance with the new M&P models, and Springfield has the XD, but GLOCK has tentacles everywhere now and they're going to be hard to unseat. Smith and Wesson had to learn a hard lesson.

The other % I want to know is how many criminals are using Glocks also...

Whenever I see the press conference after a "weapons bust", it looks like a real dogs breakfast... 1911's, UZI's, Luger, assorted .38's, .32's etc. They put anything black and scary in the front.

The police in my area purchase their own weapon (with a $2000 uniform and equipment allowance upon hiring, plus a little more annually to replace worn/damaged stuff). They all seem to carry Glock .45s.

Same on the west coast.

Keinharr carries a 1911 I think. We carry a .45 S & W. Old...P.O.S. I'm not a big fan of Glock's. However I've only fired two and they were fairly old models. I just purchased a .38 S&W for my secondary weapon. Where I'm looking to transfer to now we purchase our own weapons with an allowance and I'm thinking of a .40 Beretta Storm. That gun is the heat.

That would be hard to tell because pple will call any black gun that looks GLOCKish a Glock.

But on an intresting note I was crusing a ghetto porn site and one of the vids had the "producres" all pulling out their guns. They all had Glock 19s. In a gang video that was shown on the news here, after a rash of violent activity from a rape in broad day light to shootings, all the "thugs" in the video had Glocks.

Well, yeah, it rhymes with so many words when rapping: block, rock, sock, cock, knock, unlock, shock, jock... So many more words than can be rhymed with Smith & Wesson.

Many departments also go with Glock because we can get them very inexpensivly. For a Glock 22, with 3 mags and night sites, our department price is less than $400. Hard to beat.
