No, not really helping... but what ever.
This is one of the things you say and how ever you try to turn it around or make it better, you just sink in way deeper. So better stop right here, okay?

you are a angry twit , if you train mostly one way you will tend to fight the same way goof ball , I started in Shotokan , I looked like a shotokan fighter doing TKD . and my technique was fine. sorry you think you know it all. People who do mostly TKD look like they do mostly TKD.
Does a major league baseball player alter his batting stance every at bat , maybe slightly.
AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE FIRST VIDEO THEY ARENT WEARING WTF APPROVED CHEST PROTECTOR AND HEAD GEAR .
I only bought up the coach part not to express my own talents or lack thereof but to say Ive seen world class TKD players that were blindingly fast whose footwork was sublime.

so if you dont agree with me , fine , I really could care less. :hello:

and PS the guy in the video doesnt appear to have the typical WTF type shuffling ,

and like I said this my opinion , you disagree fine ,

I'm curious, what does a shotokan fighter look like? Also which olympic coaches did you train with and for how long?

The late 80s?!?

Dude, Olympic TKD looked completely different back then.

You are welcome ... and I suck at spelling... :sad11:

Not being an English-sprecher myself, I assumed "splapping" was koan-speak: "What is the sound of one hand splapping?"

On second thought: visions of Errant, furtively engaged in one-handed splapping, is a mental image that only the Cenobites among us would wish for...

OK, to address some of the comments and questions:

1. I'm a san-dan WTF TKDist (ch'o-dan in Jidowan, i-dan in Songmukwan; sam-dan in Ohdowkan);

2. I started TKD in a WTF affilliated Jidokwan school in 1982 before the Borg-like assimilationist policies of the Kukkiwon turned almost all WTF affiliated schools into hoppy lowhands no-punching Taeguk prancing clones of each other, back when we still trained to punch each other in the face;

3. Errant108 was fucking with me with his comment because he knows the above points;

4. Because the last 10 years of my TKD training has been with Oly styles schools, my hands suck and I know it;

5. Because I haven't trained TKD in at leat three years now and have only done stand-up sparring sporadically at TDs and the like, my stand-up in general sucks.

6. The last two points said, I may have to use what little skill I have at this point to fight LTR, because he is starting to piss me off.

Good post.

I agree with everything you said.

I trained with YH Park and he was a coach on the US team and he was one of the impetus of TKD being included as a demonstation sport in the 1988 Olympics I believe.
As much as I enjoyed my time in WTF TKD.

I had prior to that trained in the old style TKD when it was referred to as Korean Karate.
And was very close to Shotokan as the forms practiced were the Korean versions of the Heians and Bassai Dai. I thought the WTF poomses are ridiculously easy even Black Belt forms Tae Baek , Koryo , Gum Gang.

As compared to the the different versions . I had to say I like the old style better , I think it was Chung moo Kwan , We practiced alot of hand techniques and did sweeps something that is IMHO rarely touched upon in modern WTF.

As far as what olympic style TKD is now. I dont really know. I stopped practicing it , and only recently started to pick up my training in a Shotokan school as Im 50 years old now and my spinning triple flying turning axe and roundhouse kick days are over.

And I do think no art is ever complete , thats why most of you guys cross train or is it cross dress LOL .

And every art has something to offer. What I learned in TKD was how to kick much more effectively , I was always a good hand technician having started in Shotokan by taking TKD I learned to be a decent kicker. That said as a Olympic type fiighter in competition , I wouldnt have won many first place trophies because I still fought more like a Shotokan/Korean Karate fighter. And by the time I did WTF TKD I was in my mid 30s.

I would love to hear from ITF guys their take.

totally different mind sets . a TKD is looking to score with his round kicks and spinning hook kicks to the head and spinning back kicks as well as axe kicks. The TKD uses a front thrust kick

The shotokan fighter looks to use his lunge or reverse punch alot more .
Front snap kicks ,round kicks , spinning back kicks.

The rules are different TKD continous rounds , Shotokan kumite stopped every time a point or ippon is scored. Both have their good points and drawbacks.

Maybe I'm just set in my ways, but I find it to be the most accurate system, albeit a bit clunky, for transliterating Korean.

Oh, and as a complete side note, I just got offered a teaching job at Hill College today. No more daily grind as a civil servant for me.
