so, there has been some discussion on the nyc thread, about trying to organize a mega-throwdown for everyone on the northeast of the us.
some of us can't make the mega in atlanta for various reasons, and in general we have a lot of people on the forum from this part of the country and it would be nice to get a big group together.
to clarify i'm thinking that people from NY, NJ, CT, PA, OH. MA, VT, NH, MD and DC should all be interested in coming down for this. if i'm forgetting any reasonably close states. let me know.
in theory this should be held somewhere fairly central in relation to these states, and should be a place that we wouldn't mind visiting for non-throwdown reasons (might help in explaining the expense to family/loved ones, especially for those of us who will have to bring our wives)
my slightly biased opinion is that nyc makes a perfect place for this sort of thing, since it is a major hub and transportation is cheap to nyc, as well as there being plenty to do here when we aren't throwing down.
however hotels here cost an arm and a leg, so that might be a bit of a problem for those travelling far enough to need to spend the night.
thoughts?
EDIT: THROWDOWN DATE IS SET:
sunday, sept 30, 12pm-3pm (for now, i may negotiate more time)
location: fight house 122 w 27th st nyc ny www.fighthouse.com

when might this throwdown occur?

far enough in the future that a lot of people can make it.
so at least 3 months from now if not more, as this will require a lot of planning. right now i'm trying to gauge interest and find people willing to help out.

yeah. nyc would be perfect. lots of reasons for visiting, places to stay and ways of getting there.
and more importantly there's spaces here.

How much would it cost to rent enough space at fighthouse?

well, the price per head goes down depending on the number of people attending, so i doubt it would be more than $10/head.
last time we took over the whole back room, so if we could grab more of the mats we could fit a lot of people in there.
we can always hope for really good numbers, but i really doubt we'll get more than 15-20 people, and fight house would be fine for that. getting some of the better-known posters to commit to coming might help the numbers (j-lau would be one person i would love to see again, just to name one)
of course we are all open to other/better spaces if they exist (i haven't found any but that means nothing.)

i actually can't... i'll be with my girl on spring break in virginia. if it was the weekend before, i could make it. weekend after is when i'll be getting back so i couldn't even make it then.
but for the megathrowdown northeast... if you know christian, you could ask him?
and yo! you trained with the sbg guys? did we ever meet? and i'll ask one or two guys i know who i think might be interested.

damn, you guys with school schedules need to speak up sooner when i'm planning this stuff! i really am not trying to plan these during your school breaks, it just seems to happen that way.
yeah i know christian a little, and will ask him for sure about the mega throwdown.
as far as training at SBG, other than sending lots of people to christian's class, i only made it there once to train, and you weren't there that day (i have been unemployed and broke since sept.) just got a new job at columbia u, so now i will have the cash, but will be working out with the columbia bjj club to start, since it won't cost me anything right now, and it's hard to pay monthly at SBG when i can only make it there 1 day a week right now (and sometimes not even that often.)
2 of the guys i train with regularly have been going, however (howard and stan) so you most likely know them.

I'll be up for a the TD as long as its not during the last two weeks of July. I'll be up for any NYC TD in the summer that fits that criteria for that matter.

what can i say? stuff happens.
i had mrsa during the first TD and the second TD I was on break. God seems to find the combination of me and TDs too awesome to allow to happen.
and I already promised girl that I'd go down to virginia so I can't do anything about that now.
but wow, you know big howard?! I just rolled with big howard a few hours ago! small world.
I can't place stan right now... but I've also just come home from the gym and I'm exhausted.
Throw me a PM if you're ever rolling through SBG again, it'll be good to meet a fellow bully.

This sounds great. I still have some friends who live around the LI area that I can crash with if you guys decide to hold it in NYC. I'm definitely interested.
