just discovered this thread....
Omar, Asia... i will work on the shoulder and elbow stuff.
Do hope you liked the clip
about the tree.... i know some schools also use a wooden pole in the ground where the opening is a bit bigger then the diameter of the pole. This way the pole 'moves' a bit when you strike it.
they used it mostly for kicks (low) , conditioning the arms and some other training.

nice video, really does show off the baji flavor.
But at the 37s mark, do I see something that brings to mind systema? Just a coincidence.

Football players train to do this by hitting a sled:

How do Baji practitioners practice this and build up power?
i hit a candy machine with a hip thrust i learned from Baji. once saw a candy machine fall on a guys leg and it took him 6 surgeries to mend it (he limps really bad and complains about his foot all the time). so now i hit the candy machine at work with my hip in the middel of the machine so it will not tip.
About the baji that i studied in china. the place i was at was a glorified wu shu place that the forginers that practiced there made it into a rather cultish atomosphere. the baji teacher (Long Gin Gao) said to all of us that were there that he was just an old man and no great teacher (some students, including me thought really highly of him but we found that even he was lying because he was told to by the managment of the school.) . but what he taught really helped me do well in sanda and other kickboxing that i have done.
how they taught practicing hitting with the shoulders (mind you this is not tradational baji just what m teacher taught) there were wooden powles for walking on (like for the shao lin quick feet things) and we would hit them from an inch or less until we would move with our entire body. he said if we get to far away from them we would hurt ourselves and a guy did try from to far away and broke his collar bone. he did the same thing with us on the hip thrust.
what i think can be gotten form studying something like baji is good rooting for when someone trys and takes you down and some really strong elbows rather than many of the glancing ones you ofent see. dont get me wrong glancing ones suck to take also but a rooted one someone runs into your entire body weight and often they crumple. i sat out for 2 weeks because a light elbow i walked into cracked 2 ribs. i have also been knocked cold with a glancing elbow.
i also know if a good look was taken at the place and what i studied in china bulshido people would tear it a new hole and laugh at what ever anyone would have said that had studdied there. i also know that by now training for mma there is a lot more than just a narrow view of martial arts and that people have a forum (not just here) to show how either crap or really "alive" their training really is and i will see you in the ring/cage/gym

Naw, I don't like them. They were posted on KFO. If you watch they don't counter.
I like the different techniques shown but, it isn't a "fight." It looks more like a stylized demo with a predetermined winner.

not a good look when the smaller fighter is outmatched in speed, skill, strength, size... I would need to see two people really go at it not just random sparring match where someone gets bullied around for 5mins.

Right because that never happens IRL. Every fight that happens is of people in the same weight class and skill.[/sarcasm]
Look there is a video in an uncontrolled sparring environment. Yes, there are rules but the principles are there.

Is this better?
Baji looks fun. We do alot of the sweeps and bumps in our push hands. Never seen Baji before. Thanks for posting these clips.
Baji looks fun.
It did look like a lot of fun. I like the takedown in the beginning.

You do Tang Soo do. There is more contact in the mismatched sparring than this video.

I'd rather watch a good uncontrolled mismatch than the above video.

Someone asked for techniques and Baji usage and there it is.
Didn't Pat Smith do a little Tang Soo Do?

Says Tae Kwon Do.
Point is why complain when many styles have bad videos?
