I'm on your side of the pond. You'll be Moving East (http://www.movingeast.co.uk/tetsushinkan/ksr.html) then.

I didn't even know that was legitimate Kashima Shinryu...

I didn't even know that was legitimate Kashima Shinryu...It's not. In Europe, we are concentrated in Germany (http://www.kashima-shinryu.de), Finland (http://www.kashima-shinryu.fi/) and Slovenia (http://www.kssr-si.org/).

When you said this side of the pond, I assumed you meant UK. What country are you in then?

This is the reason I did not take Bujinkan becaue all those ninja weapons are useless against a gun. I intend to buy a gun and practice with it instead of learning 20 or so obsolete weapons you can't carry around anyways. You at least have a permit with a gun.

Just stumbled upon this thread after it was resurrected today, and an interesting question. I study naginata, purely because it is a weapon that has always lured and fascinated me for some reason. I was lucky to stumble upon my school and now not only do I get to learn the naginata but in a koryu environment, which I found to be far different from anything I have experienced before. Does it have any use self defence wise? Well not really. It does give me alot of insight into empty hand techniques though, because the precision needed when fighting with bladed weapons is greater and brings new considerations to the table.

Not really, unless you happen to be attacked while sweeping a sidewalk or something.

Not really, unless you happen to be attacked while sweeping a sidewalk or something. Here's a bit of important information if you intend to post in this sub forum.

POST SOMETHING OF INTEREST
REFRAIN FROM SINGLE LINE (& POINTLESS) RETORT
QUALIFY WHAT YOU STATE WITH AN OPINION BASED ON YOUR EXPERIENCES

OTHERWISE Shut the **** up.

In the immortal words of Mr. Miyagi "Wax on, Wax off". If the ultra realistic movie "The Karate Kid" taught us anything, it is that no task is too mundane to teach us valuable life lessons in MA or any task.

Seriously however, almost all weapons from the orient originate from farming implements. The nunchuk for example, comes from the bridle used to steer bovine if I am not mistaken. If you want to study a weapon because it makes you feel good and gives you something to do, I say great go for it, it's your prerogative to do so.

If you want to study a weapon that will keep you alive, then you should probably consider getting a gun with permit. Two different mentalities, I'm not saying your wrong for doing either.

Dude, are you serious? Almost all? Apart from the sai, nunchuku and kama can you name any non farm originated weapons? Considering the ridiculous array of pure fighting weapons found just in China and Japan that is a pretty out there statement......

Sai was a Okinawian Police weapon, not a farming implement.

Nunchuku was a rice flail

I know Plasma might climb out of my monitor and hack me to death with his ninja claws for saying this (because I'm not a mod for this forum) but... For the love of god guys, get your fucking facts straight if you're going to attempt a serious discussion on koryu or kobudo

Otherwise, with respect, don't post on subjects you know little about.

Next you'll be saying that Ninja came from Korea and the Japanese didn't make Honda

Humm, it just goes back to the old quote. "No one knows more about Karate then a green belt. If you doubt that, just ask him"

The problem is they know just enough information to appear knowledge to the unknowning reader, but not enough to realize they have no fucking clue wtf they are talking about.

Interesting, my bad on that one, hey it was a small slip don't go nuts. Do you by any chance know why the Okinawan's used 3 prongs instead of the 2 in the jutte that the Japanese used Plasma? I assume they were both used for similar purposes.....
