To this day I don't know how I met this particular character who somehow knew my kung fu teacher but to make a long story short he hired me to fix his computer. Of course there's nothing wierd about that but he was one of those people who watch what you're doing the whole time (that drives me crazy), and after talking to him for a bit we got into the subject of prison. He told me he had spent some time in jail. I wish I could remember the name of the place but I remember looking it up and it was reserved for murderers and what not. Anyways, knowing I was into kung fu at the time he told me some stories about "jailhouse rock" and boxing in prison. I feigned interest and then he started showing me his machate set and then got his hand gun set out and offered to sell me one.

This may not sound that crazy but it was a very strange situation.

Oh, and another surreal thing I saw. Back when I took kung fu I was helping my instructor at a new school he just opened. A father and son pair showed up for the class, and the son (who looked to be about 25) had on a hat with marijuana leafs all over it. He looked like he was into more than weed.

Anyways, after class my instructor was talking to them and the father mentioned his son has had martial arts experience in the class. After that the son just randomly started throwing thrust kicks in the air like he had to prove something to us. Anyways, the more his father talked about his sons MA experience the crazier he got until he got into full blown, shitty shadow boxing complete with rolls and flailing arms. Needless to say I had a very difficult time stifling my laugh. After all that was done with the son started talking with me and told me he'd rather go to the local ninjitsu school since they practice more "eye pokes and stuff." I can't say I wasn't happy to see him leave.

I know I'd be thinking what a crim used the gun for, that'd be creepy enough.

When I was 12 I had a Tang So Do instructor who would have all these stupid ass training scenerios (sp?). This like "this is how you fight someone on horse back, here is how you stop someone with a knife in one hit, ect." He finally got busted for burglery after the home owner shot him a couple of times.

This guy I met in the process of rolling with other grapplers at school...

He claims to have visited Thailand to participate in MT tournaments and have won. He also claims to have participated in NAGA and almost won claiming that he competed at the masters/blackbelt level and finding most people way sub-par. Obviously he won't roll with me now because of an injury he sustained during kickboxing but half-way into our rolling suggested a full on Kyokushin Kumite as an alternative.

Long story short guy is about 21 years old, hasn't made it clear whether he actually did Kyukushinn or BJJ though he's made passing references and now teaches Hapkido (yep, you heard right). Also a total wapanese and once on my suggestion for him to deck a guy that was bothering him in the mouth told me it was ok for me but he would go to jail given his lethal training.

Dunno if this falls in to the catergory but I had to vent.

I met Samual Browning once, never again. Gave me the creeps for weeks. Touches random bird's arses in the street, that kinda stuff.

I know what you mean. I had lunch with Sam recently. The things that man can do to a buffet line is unspeakable.

Are you being British again, or does Samuel Browning have unnatural sexual urges involving pigeons?

Samuel Browning called me on the phone once. I wasn't home; my wife refused to tell him anything and then hung up on him because he creeped her out. True story.

Went to college with a guy that wanted to adopt the Samurai lifestyle, and go celibate. His ex girl friend said that she respected what he was doing. This is about the time that I seriously started losing interest in martial arts. It was the 80's, and all the Ninja **** started coming out and it just got too weird.

Can I vote for Phil Elmore and Sammy Franco despite having never met them?

I count myself lucky I didn't ever met screwballs like those you described. You should describe them in the forum about enforcing mandatory health exams in martial arts' school.

i remember one guy who was kinda emotionally unstable. he was insanely good though, could pick up techniques very easily and was considerably strong.

whenever we were doing anything, whether it was drilling or sparring, there'd be times he'd treat it as though it were a real fight. people told me that on two occassions when we were rolling, he got tapped out by someone and took it very hard and for the rest of the session he'd just sit in a corner or against the wall brooding, as though something incredibly awful happened and he was just in disbelief.

Actually Chuck Norris with his new face. Like he was called in The Octigon," He looks like the constipated type."

For the fun of it, let's keep it to people you have met. I mean, if Chuck Norris is so tough, how come he hasn't scared his wig off his head. That's right, it's a wig.

I remember a guy who was amazingly good at the old style of TKD kicking- you know power, follow through. He was rated in Forms and Free fighting. But he was also nuts, he used to see things etc, and talk about drawing unicorns, etc. Everyone was fairly scared of him. He was also very good a free fighting, and wild. Eventually, he got on some med's and he cooled out, he now has a school, so I won't mention any names. He's still pretty intense, though.
