Oke... Now EVERYONE knows what the Judogi looks like...

Then there are the Mongolian Shuaijiao uniforms. Some of them look badarse, but that also depends on who is wearing them.. Not these.

and others..

And then there are the bulk of Shuaijiao practitioners that wear what appears to be very similar to the Judogi...

Still others, mostly modern sport practitioners (I think?) wear what appears to be identical to the Judogi..

So, since I've talked to both sides and they claim it as their own, the question is... Who copied who?

And then this picture just for fun: http://www.fotosearch.com/DGT066/ops037/ - READY FOR WHAT?

those mongolian uniforms do look badass.

and damn, i really love the short-sleeved uniforms!

having someone grab the very end of your sleeve, tie up your hand, then hit you with a drop seio nage is lame as hell.

the video series that links to is the first good one i've seen of shuaijiao, and this stuff is awesome. cool post!

Or from Korea..

Ja, I thought that it was oke. I've seen better, but I didn't (Still don't) have a camera at the time. The red-uniformed bloke in the third video is rather skittish, like a TKD practitioner, though. You can see that weight is not always a decisive factor if you've got the technique down and are conditioned enough to execute it.

The judogi is fashioned after traditonal Japanese clothing. Since SJ wasn't really recognized as a system until the 1930's I would say they copied the idea form Judo.

Ja, pretty much what I thought - especially with China trying to copy every bloody thing. But I did hear that the Japanese copied the "ancient" Chinese Shuaijiaofu, as well. Sounds too cliche for me. And traditional Japanese clothing was fashioned after Tang Dysnasty Chinese clothing.. A viscious cycle, 't is.

Love Kwon Gis possibly the best value you can get on a Judogi and you got Udo Quellmalz, Olympic Gold medlist, sporting it. I really wouldnt like to do newaza with one of thse mongolian things on. The metal studs (on the jacket for all you pervs) rubbing on my face doesnt sound pleasant.

I dunno...I kinda like a regular Judogi/BJJ-Kimono...the traditional Mongolian studded uniform is a bit too revealing for my taste...reminds me of some weird S&M garb; like they should be using whips/chains also...

The short-sleeved version, I don't mind too much...although at that point, it's basically just a collar (I'm approaching it from a traditional BJJ standpoint)...so it'd be kinda a hybrid of grappling between traditional gi-based BJJ b/c the collar's still there and no-gi where you'd have to use under/overhooks instead of using the sleeve...

Maybe BJJ can implement these and call it a new division...the "half-no-gi division":icon_cool
