So is Top Team a 10 for everything? I see how sweet they got it, but does everyone get 1
on 1 instruction? Should we use top team as the benchmark for all 10's?

and what kinda **** is this:

Where are the stacks of boxes and why aren't there any leaves on the floor?

Reducing Aliveness score by 1 point after seeing that bag. Also:

(10:58:20 PM) Boyd: This is what a heavy bag looks like in Silent Hill

(10:58:32 PM) Shuma-Gorath: I was trying to put that into words.

(10:59:01 PM) Shuma-Gorath: Their idea of takedown defence is to beat on some perverse caricature of a heavy bag, stripped of all motion and usefulness.

(10:59:56 PM) Shuma-Gorath: Now we just need to tie it to their deep-seated guilt and/or sexual dysfunction.

(11:03:20 PM) Boyd: Their idea of takedown defence is to beat on some perverse caricature of a heavy bag, stripped of all motion and usefulness. And they do Wing Chun.

(11:03:23 PM) Boyd: There you go.

(11:04:39 PM) Boyd: Fun fact: "Wing Chun" is Chinese for "ungh....come on....come on....****....this usually doesn't happen, I....god, you know, ha ha, looks like I had a bit too much to drink tonight. Plus it's cold. Plus it's cold."

(11:05:32 PM) Boyd: Using the proper intonation it can also include the awkward pause and "Yeah, too much to drink. Definitely that. Cause otherwise, you know."

As to the Photos of Sifu Micheal, that is not alive training stupid. He is showing students techical details. and yes John Candys arm is allready locked out at the elbow. If Sifu Casey could get his crotch up there to stabilize it will his privates he could even make it into a BJJ arm bar.

You know, the comedy here is that I wasn't trying to make you look like a dumbass. My armbar comment was meant to point out how inopportune and impractical an armbar would be from that position, not an invitation for you to say "ARMBARS HAPPEN WHEN YOUR ARM IS EXTENDED SEE SEE I KNOW JIU-JITSU".

You people only wish you could be as awesome as us.

And was it really necessary to travel to Silent Hill for your heavybag? I imagine Dick's Sporting Goods would be much closer.

I used the ratings guide, and while it may sound that I was too emotional about my rating for ATT, it falls under the guidlines.

humm... your aliveness ratings guide differs a bit from what I'd assumed aliveness referred to. I took a few points off for aliveness because while my gym does daily minimum gear, "heavy contact" sparring, the class also involves a lot of "dead" drilling. I'd assumed aliveness referred to how "alive" every aspect of the class was.

EDIT: though I have to admit to adding points back on after seeing everyone else giving their gyms such high ratings (I'm a bad person).

Just to clarify, doc, you are not the instructor at your school, correct?

I also think you are pretty seriously reaching on "equipment," I think 8+ in that should have modern, new, commercial quality weights, bags, shields, and dummies, and things like club sparring gear.

Yeah, my criteria for buying a heavy bag is whether or not it bargains for its life and pleads I HAVE A FAMILY

Hey, I am fine with Top Team USA being the benchmark Standard for all 10's, that place
looks sweet. You still don't deserve the Gi, no pictures uploaded.....

Just seemed to me that a 10 in aliveness meant people really try to kill eachother. In
Striking 10 involved full contact no protection. Weapons would mean live blades no
protection either, and mix that back in with a 10 in aliveness and people would be dead.
Silly me to think a scale would have nothing and everything on each end.

I am the instructor for this Gym. I however have two local instructors that I go to regularly
for private lessons, plus the State and Worldwide head insructors that come here and that
I travel to often.

This is the only dedicated space for EBMAS training in the area. I learn as much as I teach. I
am creating my own training partners so I get only as good as I produce.

Everything except cups and mouth guards are provided. Aside from the tired old Horse
dummy, the gear is all clean and functional and is replaced as it gets too torn up. We have
a variety of weapons to use, hanging, wall, and even a speed bag(put away as useless)
as well as a WT Dummy and balance beams. Not sure what "commercial" means, do I have
to charge more tuition so everyone can have the latest pretty colors and styles?

We are lacking in a thick wrestling mat, but thats what lawns are for. I'll make it a 7
though, just to be fair to the $100 a month schools with the good stuff that stays new.
Though I didn't see a wooden dummy at top team either.....:tongue9: (and It is time to
buy some new gloves and shin guards anyway)

and so what if I made my own weights outa cement, railroad spikes, rebar and bailing
wire!! Kettleballs are way to overpriced. I got standard steel pills too...

and When I Win the Gi for the most awsome Gym Review, I will have to take some BJJ
lessons won't I........:eusa_pray

Considering I'm the one buying the Gi, I'm out of the contest.

there on the floor under the Grappling Horse Dummy. or go here:

http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1283663#post1283663

on a side note: Why did Shuma Gay lower my aliveness points after looking at a Dummy?
Dummy or bag punching would be N/A as it applies to aliveness. Alive requires a partner.
Since EVERY striking art uses heavy bags, by his logic, any school which uses bag work can
only get up to 9 on aliveness. Ofcoarse he is just being a troll, atleast he is funny
sometimes. "Spiders Lair from Pulb Fiction", that was a good one. Did you see that Boyd?
Funny troll vs. you, not funny troll.

and as I said, tackle counter drills done with partners are not full contact, as the target is
the neck and base of skull. The Horse dummy is to practice hitting as hard as you can on.
