I hope this hasn’t been posted yet. I did a quick search and did not find it.
This is an edited belt test video from a TKD school. If these are the highlights of the test,………well just watch.

BTW I found this over on MAP while lurking the TKD forum, even the mappers didn’t have anything nice to say.

I didn't think it possible, but it was worse watching it the second time 'round.
At least those people are colored belts. The people in this video are testing for/already are black belts: (and, yes, I know I posted this once already, but I wanna keep TKS sucks Month alive)

I don't care what you say. Those guys can kick ass.
I mean, put them in any nursing home and watch them go! hahaha. Provided they don't fight anyone under 70.
Seriously... that is sad. No, let me rephrase. It's downright depressing.
Unfortunately, that looks like probably 2/3 of TKD schools. What's worse is that these people will make black belt and some of them will open up their own school.
I spoke to an instructor one time who was a decent fighter about why he didn't hold his students accountable to the same standards that he had adhered to during his training. His reply was disconcerting but I took it for what it was.
First off, he agreed that the students he had given rank were really not very good. He said they were as good as they could be for only coming to class a couple nights per week and not doing any additional training.
Then why promote them?
He stuttered around the question, but the answer was that he didn't think he could stay in business if he didn't. In essence, he said the true warrior will excel above the average student regardless of his surroundings. If the requirement for the test is to throw a spinning back kick, the average guy will learn how to throw it. It will always look clumsy and have no real power. The true warrior will not settle for that, however, and will push himself to be better.
Since I think of myself as a warrior, I began to think back to how I trained in comparison to those around me and I sort of understood his point. But I was in a good school being led by a world champion fighter so the "average" joe blow may have been of a higher caliber.
I walked away chewing on his statement and then put some thought into it. I decided that regardless of his excuse, those students think they are learning something they can apply in real life. They are walking around with a false sense of confidence. They will fail if they come up against anyone with any skill at all.
He was a purveyor of bullshido and is a direct influence on why martial artists get such a bad rap. I sympathize with his wanting to make a living off of karate, but my conscience wouldn't let me sleep at night if I were him.
