General

This is a great class, excellent instruction, friendly great cardio and strength workout.

Instruction/class format

Classes consist of a thorough workout/warmup/stretch, followed by drilling of a few techniques, often a 'passing the guard' exercise (full contact, winner stays on) and then rolling. The instructor, Marcio, makes sure he rolls with a few people each class. I've never seen anyone come close to tapping him out. It's great to spar with him, he'll kind of play along, giving advice, letting you try stuff you've drilled. But I always get the feeling he's just playing with me, and lo and behold, I'm seeing stars.
Marcio's very helpful, points out mistakes frequently, praises good play, and keeps everyone safe.

Training partners

The class has a good atmosphere, very friendly and welcoming. A lot of the guys have been training for a couple of years, and they're all happy to help the newbie.

Equipment

Brighton Judo Club has double thick tatami, changing rooms and showers. mats are a little dog-eared but they're still good. Built to last I guess.
Marcio's also started a class in Hayward's Heath, currently on a Friday at the Olympos (formerly the Dolphin) leisure centre. Thinner mats, but a good sized room.

Hey Bobby, I just spotted your question. You should definitely try the class out.
You can call Marcio on 07814 239528.

Classes are Tues 7am to 8.15am (I think), Wed 6pm to 8pm, Fri 6.30pm to 8.30pm, Sun 4pm to 6pm. The Friday class is currently at the Dolphin leisure centre in Haywards Heath.

Hope to see you there!

Jonny

EDIT: I think the Friday class has changed to Monday: call Marcio to check.

Useful for what?

I'm led to believe the price is now £15 per class, or £85 per month for up to 4 classes a week.
