Hello.

I started Wing Tsun about 6 months ago. I didn't know anything about it but I wanted to start a martial art and a class opened just down the road where I live.

It was very easy to get into and I liked it at the beginning. Altough I already noticed that the other student's that already trained for a year had no advantage over me / beat me in "free latse" (however you spell that).

Now to my background I never did any Martial Arts but I play Ice Hockey & had loads of Hockey fights etc. I'm also hitting the gym. (Powerlifting).

Our instructor keeps saying that muscle mass doesn't matter in WIng Tsun. That's absolute bull sh*t. None of the other students has a chance vs me when we fight. I even smacked the instructor down once when he wanted to demonstrate some grappling attacks on me.

I find it really boring & brainwashing business. All the other students believe everything what the instructos says etc. & buy all the WT merchandise.

I did my first Grading (cost £30) and found it an absolute joke. So since then I didn't grade anymore, just do the training and the instructor now won't teach me new stuff.

Anyway I wouldn't recommend it.

Then take it off your style field.

Why are you still there dude? Continuing your training in what you admit to be a totally ineffective Martial Art can only have a negative effect on your development.

I'm in a 12 Month Contract! :eusa_doh:

6months left.

As I said I didn't know anything about WT before I started.

So I keep going until my contract ends.

Gecco69,

Didn't your sifu tell you, WT only work for pin-sized nuns (preferably undeflowered). You, simply do not have the physical attributes to make WT work. So sorry about the contract though.

GMW.

I can't see how it would work for anyone ?

Since I started all I noticed is that the Sifu is trying to get as much of your money as possible.

And all the other students in my class have been successfully brainwashed.

As soon as the sifu presents a new WT book, a new WT T-shirt in a different colour etc. they go buy it.

How much money have you paid? I personally think that not going and losing your money will actually be more constructive than staying.

you could always publically beat his ass until he volunteers to let you out of contract. I hear that works in those kind of cults.

How about links to the kwoon, for future avoidance? Sound like bullshido and mc-kwoon to me.

Mungkorn Dam,

I thought about that...

But I'm paying £50 a month for 3 times a week training @2h.

Yeah sometimes staying can be worse for you later if you decide to do another Art. I still have trouble not throwing crappy TKD kicks that I learnt from hanging around a bad art to long. But if you have spent abit then all you can do it cast voodoo on his ass for another 6 months.

I think it doesn't matter which WT shool it is.

Just 3 Weeks after I started there was a tournament. I won my first 3 fights & they then disqualified me for not using WT only.

The first guy was a phase 6 Student, 2nd guy 12 i think. 3d guy was a 1 technican.

That's not hugely expensive for good training but is a real stinger if you're not enjoying it. Seeing as you have to pay anyway I'd recommend not going mate. All you're going to do is pick up bad habits.

I didn't realise you're in the UK, whereabouts are you?
