Off the top of my head, no. Check our links page at www.ussambo.com in the friends of the ASA section. All the canada links I know of are there.

Glad to say that team USA (New York Combat Sambo) went up and swept the medals against team Canada (Club Kozak). Seriously though, the Canadians were tough mofos and the fights could have went either way on any day.
The turn out was smaller than we would have liked, but there was a Canadian and US team so we had a great team challenge! Had an awsome time and boy those Canadians can put down the beers!!
Gotta get more teams up there next year!!!

This tournament was a while ago but still, they look like fun rules to compete under. Similar to mma without the gnp (at least to the head) are there many tournaments like this in Canada? When Im healthy I'd be interested in competing in something like this though I've only got alittle bjj (a year-ish with no real leglock knowledge) which might result in me getting thrown and leg locked all over the damn place. With the headgear and shinguards I think it could be fun as long as I tap early

Sambo isn't that large here in Montreal.I've only heard of one school that teaches it.Is it open to all styles?

thats cool seems similair, what are the rules as far as contact to the head whilst standing? Reminds me kinda of this amatuer shooto fight i watched on google video forever ago. The standup was mma gloves, shin pads and head gear full contact the ground was pure sub wrestling know that would be ideal. I havent trained a whole lot in a gi. Though i guess this could be motivation to start.
edit:
I just googled sport jits in toronto and didnt come up with any info if anyone has any info on that or the sambo stuff or anything similair (in anywhere in ontario or quebec......god knows i look for excuses to go to montreal) itwould be much appreciated.

The clubs than mostly run tournaments are:
Milton Jiu Jitsu http://home.cogeco.ca/~miltonjj/
Hamilton school of martial arts http://www.hsma1.com
and these guys in Titenham (about 40 minutes north east of TO) http://www.sandojutsu.com/
The rules are (as stated on the Hamilton site)
Required Equipment
Sparring-Grappling Gloves
Groin Cup
Mouth Guard
Kicking Boots
Jiu-jitsu, Judo or Karate Gi
Optional Equipment
Head Guard
Shin Guards
Competition
Matches are 3 minutes long
Competitors earn points mainly by punching and kicking target areas [Head, Torso, Thighs] powerfully (but not TOO powerfully)
Points can also be gotten by throwing and pinning
A submission [choke; armlock; leglock] wins the match outright
All groundfighting is stopped after 30 seconds if there is no submission within that time
The big issue have is the interpretation of - powerfully (but not TOO powerfully)
I have been rocked in sparring with a quick jab right on the chin that didn't look like much
The gloves worn are like MMA gloves but with a lot more pading. Which is why I think it's Gi only as you really can't do **** with them with out a Gi.

thnx for the info, "powerfully but not TOO powerfully" is possibly the worst rule I've ever heard so subjective. The time limit on the ground also seems alittle weak. I guess I would still compete though its not exactly what I was looking for, my search for mma-lite will continue elsewhere.
