Ju-jutsu and judo for about 16 years, started sombo in '96 while living in Mongolia.
Have done some Mongolian Wrestling while there as well.
Have been doing Araki-ryu for about three years.
A little karate back in the early '90s.

Trained about 6 months at a McDojo in karate. Left the school due to the fact I wasn't learning anything.
Picked up martial arts again, though full time. I have been training in Karate for over 1 year now, and am still am straining in it. Though now I'm working on a lot a groundfighting out of the dojo due to the fact, the groundfighting done in my karate school is very limited compared to BJJ only schools.

Started judo when I was nine. Did it until I was twelve. Left, because everyone told me all that wrestling type stuff was crap. Started wado-ryu karate when I was thirteen because I wanted to do all that cool beating people up type stuff. At fourteen I started drinking and partying, and I lost my interest in martial arts at fifteen. When I was twenty I tried out some shotokan for three months, and I realized why I'd quit martial arts in the first place. Aat twenty-two I started feeling guilty about being slightly overweight, so I took up southern Shaolin. Did that for about a year, moved to Paris, tried som MA there, thought they all sucked. Discovered Bullshido.net and realized that the doubts I'd had about my Shaolin school were well founded. Moved back from Paris, discovered a BJJ-school, and that's where I still train. I've never been happier with martial arts.

Some crappy Shotokan when i was younger (bout 2 years of it). Started WC just over a year ago (my sifu trained under Kevin Chan, has worked on the door, and ran nightclubs for most of his life...which is kinda how i met him when he ran a pub near me), had to stop briefly but resumed again about 8 months ago. Am trying to get to an Escrima school near me, have been looking at BJJ also but the only school nearby trains at the same times as my WC class which i would never give up as it suits me perfectly, especially the no holds barred attitude we have when training (the sessions of comparing bruises before/after lessons are always fun).
You are impressing me more all the time with the way your teaching and training has evovled. It's particularly interesting to me because you have worked it out on your own but came up with such traditional solutions.
Form from "MY" view are realy ways of easily organising the sytem in order to teach it. They are an instructor's tool.
Example, I usualy teach the form first at each level (Except then first level). Then, I watch how a student peforms the form, and I can zero in imediately on thier weakest skill and work it right away. Once they have it right in the air, then it's time to start drilling that application. For me, it's easy to warm the students up or condition them with the form, and wile it is fresh in my mind from correcting it, I pick out the techniques we will be working on for that day....
That's pretty much how I get my classes in China. First thing is to run through the form once for my teacher. Then he zeros in on whatever he didn't like in the form. Then we may move on to some apps or a little one on one practice to bring it to life. Maybe some exercises will be reccomended or a litttle general advice on how I need to modify my training. We don't spend the whole time doing form training but the form training does provide the basic skeleton for the lesson.
7-8 years of judo.
2 months of decent TKD.
3 years of muay thai on and off ( I get bored of striking)
Now doing Igo Ryu jiujitsu which is basically BJJ mixed with wrestling and judo. Its also the best art I've done as well.
So is 9 Chambers a master yet or what?
