Live thread live!

And C'mon people, Wing Chun has more than one kind of punch. The punch where the hip moves forward with the punch is a power punch. Chain punches aren't for power, they're to overwhelm the dummies that lose control of the situation and get confused easily. Most good fighters don't do that, unless you get them really off-balanced first. Chain punching never impressed me much. Oh wow, cool, 427 girly slaps in .5 seconds!

But don't doubt the hip punch. I don't doubt one of those could knock someone out.

On a related note, has anybody seen the latest issue of Budo International (No 32)? It has Victor Gutirrez showing a few pages worth on WT anti-grappling. One picture shows somebody going for a double leg. IT IS THE WORST EFFORT OF A DOUBLE LEG I HAVE EVER SEEN! No exagerations. When you shoot, you keep your posture. This guy bends so far forwards that his head is lower than his hips! He even keeps both of his legs straight! Before anybody tries to tell me that it's a street attacker, whom doesn't know how to shoot, you may wish to consider that the whole article is aimed at using WT anti-grappling against experienced fighters.

It kind of annoys me when I hear the term "WT ant-grappling." It's like they're still trying to seperate grappling and striking, which shouldn't be the case.

You have no idea what chain punches are for.

You've never really been hit.

Alright Amp, just fill every opening you have with 13 punches a second and KO everyone you fight.

Then I stand corrected. But I at least thought eye gouging was out.

Uncorrect yourself. I watched the fight with the groin punches. Joe Son and Keith Hackney. It's irrelevant. There were rules. Specifically, no biting or eye gouges. I dpn't rememebr what else. This example only shows that groin strikes were legal. I seem to rmember rules regarding kicking and shoes. No head kicks if you wore shoes. Head kicks legal if you came in barefoot.

We talked about this before in other theards.

UFC 1, in all intents and purposes had no rules. You could do anything you wanted. There was no way to lose by diqualifaction. If you resorted to eye gouging or biting you were fined $500 per occurance, with the money to be paid to the gougee.

After that for a while each UFC had different rules, often set in part by local boxing and other athletic commisions, sometimes hours before matches were to take place.

And it is a documented fact, that even in true NHB/No Rules fighting, fighters often have personal boundaries they are unwilling to cross. Frank Shamrock even went as far to say he felt uncomfortable striking opponents out of fear of hurting them and that he always strived to outwork and then submit them instead.

Who is willing to blind, maim, or kill another man for a couple of thousand bucks? Who is going to step in the ring with you after that? And if they do, they are going to try to kill, maim, or blind you. Too most profighters, that is too much of a risk to take.

Punisher,
Well, that clears that up. I often wonder about those implicit 'do not kill your own species' genetic tendency 'rules'.

Oh right, so when they do photo shoots they specifically position themselves for the worst shot possible, but when they train they of course shoot correctly.

FWIW, one of my netscape splash news screens had some bit about Roy Jones Jr setting some world record with 13 punches in 1 sec.

I just did a search on the Guinness Book of World Records website, and there's nothing there about punches per second. There's a record for most punches in one hour, though, and it looks like a dude doing _ing _un! FTW!
