When you walk into the gym thinking "Geez, my bad ankle kills tonight. I probably shouldn't train" and then train for 3 hours, stand-up and ground, you shouldn't be surprised when you blow out your bad ankle.
Just a tip.

People generally get what they deserve.
I said it before here to someone:
"If you are injured, you should not be training"
My post was then followed by a lot of posts where people stated, "you've got to train through injuries", "its all part of martial arts" and other ignorant rubbish.
If you wondering why I'm getting on my high horse here, I also got what I deserved.
Almost a year ago now our instructor discovered and advanced neck strengthening exercise. I tried it when I shouldn't have, and am still having problems a year later.
Listen to your body, it knows best.
If people tell you otherwise, ignore them, they are morons.

P.S. I'm going to talk to a sports medicine guy tomorrow, so yeah, I think it'll probably be MRI time.

That sucks - hope your ankle gets better soon JKDC.
OMG - retinal detachment! I'm hoping that this wasn't caused while training/sparring. If you get it treated early, you'd only need freezing or laser surgery.
On a similar note - I was talking to some guys at my club tonight who've been doing BJJ for years and two have severe neck injuries - they think I have some disk degeneration in my neck. I'm going to get it checked out but I have a feeling this is the end of my BJJ career. Their pain has never gone away despite taking months off (in some cases) and some keep rolling with the steady use of pain-killers.

Yeah, I have to admit, retinal detachment trumps anything I've had ... you win you ... uh lucky guy?

I think that many martial arts are like high school sports. Practitioners are encouraged to train through injuries and many times have their careers cut short by these complications arising from the injuries. "If it hurts, that means you're doing good." "No pain, no gain." I understand a little muscle soreness, but for chrissake, if your shoulder is making grinding noises when you move it, get it checked.

Sometimes I have trouble discerning good pain from bad pain.
Seriously injuring yourself or aggravating an injury in training is the complete opposite of martial arts training.
