I've been catching it, 5 nights a week- mixed bag- some full contact some int'l rules, and some Mauy Thai from Thailand. It's prety fucking good, actually. Just a heads up on some good brutality.

Bleh, I don't even have cable. Of course, the only thing I'd ever watch on it is probably boxing and the occassional K-1 show that gets broadcasted.
Me and Kat were at Locu5's house about a week or two ago and there was some kickboxing on one of the stations (maybe ESPN). The two fights we watched were pretty terrible. The first was a men's middleweight FCR match I believe which was just sloppy as hell and their kicks were awful, then the second was a woman's FCR match which was just a disgrace. The one girl who was dominating was just swinging wildly while the other girl just did not want to fight (you actually hear her say to her corner people "I don't want to fight") and she just quits I think in the second round or so.
You can't expect everyone to be K-1 level I guess.

Kid, it is a mixed bag, but they have some good fights- Dekkers, coban, Bille, etc, plus lots of stuff from Thailand. I'm sure you would dig some of it. But when the FCR fighters come on, it's time to hit the remote. I saw Danny Steels old loss to George Tsutsui. George is a good guy, and I'd ask him questions at Fairtex sometime, but I think that Steel won that fight. Steel doesn't have much of a punching game, but he makes low kicks look as good as high kicks. Crap. It's FCR, oh well. decent punching though.

I just downloaded Rick Roufus vs Changpuek Kietsongrit the other night (Old ass muay thai vs Full Contact Karate fight). Really interesting fight. I think you could probably guess the outcome if you haven't seen the fight already. I sort of wonder if it was the inspiration for the Eric Sloan vs Tong Po fight in Kickboxer because of Kietsongrit's showing in the fight.
I've been getting my kickboxing fix from downloading videos from K-1fans.com recently, they've got a lot of awesome stuff in the forums.

Yeah, Roufus got crushed. He improved his MT game some, but never enough to really get the whole enchillada in K-1. I think he still fights.

He won I think the first K-1 USA GP, but got his ass pretty badly kicked in later K-1 events IIRC.
There are some pictures in my school of Roufus doing some training with my instructor.

I believe I saw that one myself. One guy was from Thailand and the other guy was a hometown fighter and they were fighting under Thai rules. I could be wrong, there was a bunch of kickboxing on that I just recorded throughout the day. Also I remember the female fights, the one lady in the middle of the match basically just stopped fighting and walked over to her corner like she wasn't going to fight anymore.

The men's fight that night was Full Contact, no thai rules fight that I saw (though we tuned in kind of late in the event I guess).
It'd be sad to think that the female fighters just giving up in the middle of the match was not uncommon in pro kickboxing, but I guess it wouldn't surprise me too much.

Alex gong had a fight where the guy just got up and left the place, in between rounds. Just said **** it, I guess. No towel, nothing just left. Leave it to the martial arts for that kind of weirdness. Also, the strikeforces had terrible mismatchs in terms of the skill of the hometown fighter and the cans that they usually seem to get. I paid to see Alex fight some Russian who did a standing fetal position, and got knocked out in seconds. I trained at this school, but I booed along with everyone else. No offense, but as my friend said "that guy looks like a fucking aids victim!". All of Cung Le's fights seemed to look like that- every guy he fought had had one or two SAnShou fights, and looked like amateurs.

Yeah, when ESPN shows it, the title of the TV show's are just "Kickboxing" in ver generic terms. I just recorded them all and watched them. Plus they where preempted by some other sports broadcast so it started late and affected the whole series of shows. They all ended up bluring together. I find myself just hitting up the old youtube and watching the fights there.
