View Full Version : Does this seem bizarre for Frank Shamrock to do?

clearly not having anything better to do, I was perusing Frank Shamrock's website at http://www.frankshamrock.com/. If you look at the bottom right hand corner of the site you'll see a section for Charities. While I think it's good that everyone, let alone quasi-celebraties, are involved with charities, this particular one seems sort of strange:

Michelle's Kidney - Michelle is my half sister who I met and grew up with as a little boy of 8 to 12 years old. She is a wonderful loving person with two beautiful children and a good strong husband. Diagnosed with the rare blood disorder Lupus she has fought with the illnesses that is creates for many years and as a result her kidneys are shot.
Michelle is currently on dialysis, which is a machine to clean her blood. With a heart as big as hers, she has found Janet; who will donate to her a new kidney. The last one came from her Michelle's own mom and I cannot imagine the sacrifice. Please help with a goodwill gesture of a few bucks.
Pay Pal: tumblebush@gmail.com (tumblebush@gmail.com)
Credit Card: Call # 480-558-1281 and ask for Michelle. If you receive an answering machine please leave your name, number and contact info.
Her story as told by Michelle:
My Info: Michelle Yvonne Roberts - Birthday 10/12/70.
I was diagnosed with systemic Lupus in Oct. of 1989; approx.17 yrs ago.
I've suffered a mild stroke, renal failure of both kidneys (lost a kidney after a kidney biopsy) and all this accompanied with grand mal seizures. Rheumatoid Arthritis, severe anemia and I have received countless blood transfusions. I did all this to stay alive.
I have also had two years of chemotherapy. Last thing is I lost kidney function in August of 2005 and now am on kidney dialysis and will be until I get a kidney transplant.
My friend Janet Moore is being tested to be a donor. We will be cross typed and matched (Meaning seeing if our blood is compatible) on Oct. 3rd of 2005.
Results should come in the following week. Keeping fingers crossed!!!! Janet Moore is a wonderful person for doing this.
Her B-day is December 4 th , 1971. This is a very big thing to do for someone. Our main problem is she used all her PTO and Vacation time and since she's a Nurse. She cannot go back in 2 weeks because she has to lift more than 25 lbs.
Financially for 6 to 8 weeks Janet has no income. How do you ever say thank you enough to a person doing this for you. I get 325 a month. That's it... So I cannot compensate funds for her time lost or lost work.
We are trying to raise the money through charities and /or car washes ANYTHING we can do to help pay extra medical expenses and her time off work.
You have no idea how scary it is to fight for your life but I need everyone's help and appreciate anything you can do to help out. It means soooooooo much to me. I am grateful. Thank You for listening to my problems being there for me and for your love. Michelle Roberts

I think the thing I find strange is that he's displaying some seemingly personal family info out to everyone with a call for donations to source that sounds dubious at best. He's not asking for donations to a lupus foundations, but money for the lady that might be a kidney donor to his sister because his sister is too poor to help her out. Even if this were true, why isn't this being dealt with privately? Wouldn't you think that Frank could provide the "goodwill gesture of a few bucks"? Does this sound odd to anyone else?

This belongs in general BS doesn't it?

Anyways i can understand where he's coming from. You do some pretty desperate things when your loved ones lives are at stake.

yeaaa... don't know about that... I would think he could just cut a check and leave out the details of destitution.

wasn't sure about the forum, but since this sounds fishy I thought why not.

Well... he does get hit in the head a lot.

It's not like he gave away her address. Some things are personal, but if he just said "give money for my half-sister's kidney", then people probably wouldn't care. When you read more into her life, you can see how important it is to her and Frank. Kind of like how you felt sad when Bambi's mom died, even though it's not only fiction, but an animation, and she tasted SO GOOD. By giving more information, you might care more.

I think the thing that I'm wondering is; is sharing this story worth whatever pittance of money it will make? Since the money is going to his half-sister's friend, it makes it seem a tad sketch. Plus it makes Frank seem like a cheap ass IMO.

well, like war phalange said, he gets hit in the head alot. And we're not privvy to his financial status, for all we know he threw it all away on cheap hookers and expensive booze.

This is Michelle writing about the information not Frank. He is just displaying the message.

How much money do you think he makes?

i know his sister is writing it, but he's displaying it. I would think he would earn enough to not have to resort to this. maybe i'm wrong.

Frank doesn't make alot of dough. When he was still competing, about 6 years or so, he came to my company, a small (one location) copier (ricoh) dealership, and asked the owner to back a fight event at one of the indian/native American reservations. The owner was happy to meet with him, and his hot wife (at the time he was still married), but he declined. Turns out, the owner was right, and the event was a big money loser- that's probably why he is a millionaire and Frank had to hit him up for cash.

From my very brief time training with him, I got the impression Frank was about training and teaching, and didn't have the sharpest business sense. It's really sad. I hope he gets a few more fights through Strike Force, or whatever organization ran Shamrock vs. Gracie.
