7/02/2006 2:50am,
Ok, I'm ranting here and noboy may read this. But I deserve to rant. So here goes...
WHAT THE ****? Why the hell has everyone surrendered TKD over to the dumbass WTF and ATA? I thought this site was supposed to be about fighting the BS in MA. Everyone has surrendered TKD over to the crap schools. Everyone just makes fun of TKD, instead of making fun of the bad schools. What about the good (they're extremely rare but I'm convinced they exist) schools out there?
I used to be part of a great school. We didn't **** around with forms all day. We didn't do point sparring. We allowed punches to the head. We didn't screw around with those shitty one step choreographed counters. We worked on forms for ten minutes, and if you couldn't get your one form per belt right then screw you. We worked on good technique, and good striking. We worked on becoming good at all those jumping reverse kicks.
Now I know the shortcomings of TKD kicking techniques thanks to the "why don't kicks work in MMA" thread. But that doesn't stop a good TKD guy from being able to defend himself easily.
So why not instead of making fun of TKD, why don't poeple just tell shitty practitioners where they can stick it?
Hell what were to happen if BJJ suddenly became infested with LARPers, and some stupid org, started pushing BJJ as an olympic sport but introduced a ruleset that degraded it into garbage?
What has happed to TKD can easily happen to any other art. All that needs to happen is the art needs to become extremely popular. (I call it the Yu Gi Oh effect. Named after the way the YGO card game, trashed the CCG world's rep amoung the nerd's of the world. )

This has been beaten to death ten times, then resurrected and beaten to dead again ten times. And that was even before I came to this site.

There are about a thousand of them.
Pretty much every thread in which TKD is discussed.

Yeah, but you have to remember it was developed against calvary. The Korean army could kick the invading samurai off of their horses.

Crazyman, the death nail was hammered years before the Bullshido.com was set-up.So don't balme us for your organizations impotence in the face of soccer-moms who wanted Johnny feel pride in getting his blackbelt at the age of 8.
Don't balme us since it was TKD that created XMA.
Don't blame us on Mc-Dojang's.
Don't blame us for 30 year old 7th Dans.
Or 16 year old 4th Dans for that matter.
Don't blame us for representing at groups like Naska.
Just don't blame us.
Blame yourself.Or your teacher or you master.

Maverick speaks the truth. It has now fallen on the individual practioners to do their part in trying to save TKD. DerAuslander is an excellent example as is Maverick. Me I am trying to salvage Kung Fu's rep at the moment if I ever find success in that (which I doubt I will, but I won't give up) then I too will turn my attention back to TKD.

Interestingly enough the WTF TKD schools in Korea only focus on forms once a week (at least in my experience) and at least attempt to teach their students to keep their hands up. Of course they still generally end up keeping their hands down anyway, but I will at least give them credit for the attempt. I blame the Olympics really.

Archery is the orginal Korean art.
They switched to TKD when they realized they could get more chicks.

My friend, I'm going to have a very hard time taking anything you say seriously in the future.
