Why do they call Pride FC and UFC among others NHB? Its not NHB... its SHB (Some Holds Barred). No eye poking, no groin shots, no fishhooks etc... as long as there is rules, its not NHB.

Ok, ok... without such rules we couldnt call it sport and show it on TV, but then call it MMA or Vale Tudo or whatever... just not NHB.

LOL, good point. I forgot just how brutal some of the Vale Tudo fights were. I pulled out some old VT fights of Silvas awhile back & damn. Downright scary! But, even in those fights there is a certain amount of understanding that your not going to kick your opponent in the nuts, that's just messed up, lol...& unless your on the street, who wants to win by "eye gouge"?

All those things used to be legal man. I rememebr watching Oleg Taktarov vs. Tank Abott and seeing Tank stick his fingers in Olegs mouth trying to fishhook him. It didnt really work anyway.

IVC is the best for NHB. They allow groin strikes and finger breaking and everything. i think you only cant bite or poke eyes. There are plenty of fights that allow that too tho. Just take a look at the Kung Gu vs. MMA download on this site. The only real difference is that the Kung Fu man had his arm broken instead of being able to tap quick.

Yea, even in a real fight most people don't try to blind a guy unless they are losing really bad or at a real dissadvantage.

If that is your goal from the start I think you can do it alright - but if you are already losing bad so you decide to try for the eye poke I think you'll just piss the guy off more and he'll poke your ryes out instead.

The eye poke itself is a useful strategy if you want to get a free strike or move in. Some agencies teach their doormen to rub their fingertips over the eyes and then use that distraction to apply a lock to remove the problem customer. It's a simple method that doesn't leave bruises or bumps and it gets the job done.

The eye gouge is something you should only use as a last resort or if you seriously want to maim the guy. You're talking about GBH and you better be justified in doing it.

Hell in my JKD school they actually practice the eye poke.

It's MMA, people just like calling it NHB because it sounds cooler.

It [MMA] is NHB practically there are just a few more moves taken (not "Holds", if that refers to submissions.) UFC however has taken some rules out which Pride still has kept..

The first IFC in Kieve Russia is pretty brutal. One guy gets taken out by the Nastiest front kick to the Nuts I've ever seen.
