YJM - His books seem great when you are just entering the world of martial arts, and need to get a general overview of what's involved across many styles. I think his intent is in the right direction, although he obviously wants to sell books. I haven't heard anything about his actual martial arts skills. Oh well.
BKF - He too wants to sell books, videos and classes. That is his 'profession'. Nothing wroing with that. As to his skill, I can't speak to that. As to his 'girth', that's neither here nor there. There are amazing thin and fat martial artists. It's the skill that matters.

Kuntaokid - regarding your suspicion of 'fa jing':
I can only say that you have never experienced true fa jing. It certainly generates a lot of power with minimal exertion. Repulsive Monkey knows what I'm talking about.
STFU N008IE!
Actually, Kuntao Kid is a believer too. You should see the awesome power he generates by pounding his own linchpin repeatedly.

Wu, Kuntaokid was being facetious. He is a proponent of all manner of jing, fa or otherwise.

The bagua clips I saw of BKF were far from impressive.... Looked almost like he was needing a nap..... I read some of his "the power of the internal arts" book..... It was well written, but too intellectual and philisophical to be practial for my purposes...... I 'think im just going to find out what happens when I train by training.

As for the use of mass in a punch, read Jack Dempsey's book on boxing, Championship Fighting. It's out of print but there's copies floating around the internet. It's not some kind of chi thing, it's just body mechanics.

It was published on Bullshido by, I think, patfromlogan (kind, sharing soul that he is) and I took an e-copy. Use the Search function and you should find it.

Use the Search function and you should find it here on Bullshido. I took one earlier as I seem to recall that the link was published for e-copy by, I think, patfromlogan (kind, thoughtful soul that he is) so hope you find it (and it's a good read). I'm halfway through "The Manassa Mauler" by coincidence:-)

Yang Jwing Ming:
Don't know how his current organization is run, but for a while I belonged to a school run by his senior student, Bolt.
Very laid back atmosphere, take what you want approach.
Not everyone wanted to fight. Some were more into forms and flash.
Those that did want to fight got very good at it. Impressively so. Sparring was very alive, and very real...
Summary: I have had actual experience with YJM and his students and his students' students. Legitimate CMA. If Bolt were still in the states, that's where I would be training. Without a moment's hesitation.

Back in my stupid crosstraining phase, I owned a lot of his books. I really like the picture presentation, the little arrows of force and movement he inserts are really helpful.
Of course, none of it actually works on someone fighting back/with an ounce of skill, but it's easy to understand.
What CMA were you training in back then?

We occasionally get people who went to YMAA and they tend to not be very...strong. Of course, the folks we would get are the same people who have done two-four months in every kwoon in town. (They tend to leave us even faster than that.)

Interesting.
I did a seminar with Yang. It was white crane Qi gong and chin na. I had fun. The chin na stuff was fun but it reminded me alot of jujitsu stuff I had learned. Wrist locks and chokes mostly. I think he is the real deal but to caught up in marketing.
BK I liked his internal book but I don't buy into his stuff. seems shady.
