Jorec, it's definitely a miscommunication we're having. I have a real aversion to the term sparring because when I hear it I think of Tae Kwon Do point sparring. As far as the way you are interpreting the term 'fight', I could understand your objections if it wasn't for the fact that I mentioned that I'd like UFC rules in those same posts.

We've determined that guys will discuss terms before the matches, but if you read my posts carefully then you can see that I don't want to gouge your eyes out or risk you doing the same to me.

Edit: Response to your last post: Jorec, I think we could possibly rent something at the universities. Jorec I'll do a stand-up match with you, but I can't guarantee I'll have actual boxing gloves, so I may only have my MMA gloves. I imagine this isn't an enticing possibility for you, so I'll put in an effort to borrowing some.

Ah, I now understand completely. Tae Kwon Do point sparring? Bleh. Sorry, I didn't even think you imagined thats what I ment when I said sparring. I was thinking "Wow, if this guy thinks that sparring (Ala boxing sparring) is to weak, then he must just want a straight fight. The mention of UFC rules means little to me as I don't know their rules, never watched the stuff myself so.

Never thought you wanted to do alot of overt harm to anyone tho, the whole eye gouging rules and whatnot were pretty much examples of what i'v always seen as 'standard' rules no matter what MA your doing. I'll look up the UFC rules to see exactly what they are now.

As for boxing gloves and equipment, I have spare gloves so if you really do wanna have a standup fight with boxing gloves I can provide em. :)
If we do this in a couple months, i'll pick up some MMA gloves (College tution killed me for the next few weeks atleast), maybe I could actually do some of the trapping i'm taught in JKD, lol.

I hadn't considered the universities for a place to rent. Its a good idea to be sure.

If you want to step up in an even bigger way and you like camping make your way down to 66 slater street in ottawa and tell them you want to fight. They'll hook you up with some good training and people to use it on :)

Already done that, mate. But only for a year. I left to enter university and return as an officer. Ya they would have paid my way through, but I wanted the option to return on my own terms. Still contemplating that officer thing, maybe for infantry. Gotta complete my civic duty.

Ya isn't that what it's for? It's called Throwdown not Technique Sharing Dragonball Z Convention. Haven't you seen the throwdown videos on this site? Perhaps I should define clearly (Edit: AGAIN, but just for you MrMcFu, cause you're special) what I want out of it. We'll call it an MMA Bout rather than a fight, and I'd like to use the UFC rules.

Threatened much? It's a yes or no question, but it looks like it has been straightened out.

Heya.
If you want to PM all you have to do is go to your user control panel, on the left hand side in the middle there will be options for sending private messages and whatnot.

To continue on tryin to organise this thing. I'm asking if anyone else has any more ideas on where we could host this.
Given our so far relatively low ammount of people it could be a fairly small space.
Now, I'm going to see about UofO and whatnot as I think that a central (downtown) location would be best for all no? But other then that, I know of few places in the downtown area that are a possibility.

I'll be checking into whether Carleton will allow us. I've seen a hockey player going to their gym with all his gear at 9:30PM, so hopes are up.

Secondly, I'm looking for a regular training partner. I'd prefer someone who likes to strike, but can do takedowns. If you haven't done them before, then I'm sure we can work it out. Bonus if you have your own gear or are willing to get it.

Damn I am away in August. If this does go down, someone post video.

Hey Rooster, why did you change your style from "Chinese Martial arts" to Striker? Are you a Fang Shen Do guy that just doesnt want to get into the real threads and are hiding in the Throwdown section??

If you are looking for people that know takedowns, just do a drop in class at a club that does them, most places love to show what they know. And no, you wont just be able to figure it out on your own, but good luck with that.

No I'm not a Fang Shen Do guy. But I don't like the way discussions go down on forums usually, so I don't bother posting or, usually, reading them. I did Karate for 5 years when I was a kid, so I thought I'd just say generic striker, considering the mix.

I know how to do takedowns, because I used to play center on defense in football, but thanks for the luck. Judging by what I know, I should be able to show someone how to do it in little time.

Edit: Askari, I think we're leaning towards September 2nd or 3rd.

Askari
7/30/2006 8:26am,
So let me get this straight:

5 years Karate = Chinese Martial arts.

football center = knowledgeable on takedowns.

Interesting.

Side to that, I always thought the defensive center was the Nose Tackle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nose_tackle) and had more to do with smashing into people then to do with what most would consider a fighting takedown, though I could see how the aggression of football can help.

I also noticed that you have eluded to the dreaded knee to face defence several times in this thread, perhaps you also believe that this is a method for stoping takedowns?

Edited to add: If its just that you are having a hard time expressing exactly what it is you really intended to post, perhaps become involved in the larger discussion. I find that experience with the board will allow you to compose discussion in such a way that it is harder to miss-understand.

No, but karate is a japanese art, yea? So if I say chinese arts then that isn't really representative is it? I've done a couple other chinese styles, and also my dad taught me a bit of boxing as a kid.

I didn't mean that I was knowledgeable on takedowns like a wrestler might be, I said I knew how to do them.

The knee to the face a takedown defence? Probably not the way you're thinking of them. This is a TD thread tho, we do our talking in the ring, ya? Again, September 2nd or 3rd, you're welcome.

Edit: Oh, and the defensive center, nose tackle, tries to break through the line and then tackle. It's the offensive center's job to smash into people only. I also played middle linebacker and right guard in my brief, 2 year, bantam level football career.

7/30/2006 2:31pm,
All right, that makes a bit more sense now. Your initial story wasnt adding up.

I'm in agreement that the knee to the face against an incoming shot is not a highly effective takedown defense. It generally gives your knee to the wrestler.

If I can be there, I will be, but schedules are against it right now. If I cant be at the TD, look for me in the tournament circuit, I pretty much enter any that are within drivability.

Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, is this Martin? Damn why don't you just wear a big sign when you go out.

How much do you weigh?

I'm 5"10", 242 (I weighed 255 about a month and a half ago). I am clueless. But I have a really hard time finding anyone in my weight class. I live in MTL.

My style is vicious mexican lucha libre, with a sprinkling of rowdy roddy piper.

No, Tae Kwan Spawn, this isn't Martin.

Blur, I weigh about 190 I guess. It's been a very long time since I weighed myself.
