Hey, i got a question about training headbutts. Someone further back said something about headbutting a heavy bag. Makes sense, but i wonder, is'nt it sort of bad for the brain to hit stuff with your head on a regular basis? I mean, what with concussions and all. I'd appreciate if someone enlightened me on that topic. Thanks.

Five times should be enough for that answer just hang tennis ball for some string.

Unless you want to be living proof that the internet makes you stupid, don't go around practising headbutts on anything harder than a bean bag. The object of which should be to work on your aim. But why the **** are you practicing **** like headbutting anyway? Its the last thing you want as a main weapon. "Argh, Beware my headbutt."
The only head conditioning that exists is called IQ deduction. The stupider you are the less your head will hurt. Ever see the Simpsons episode where Homer becomes a boxer? You'll know what i'm talking about.

That's sort of what i thought. Headbutting stuff will hurt your brain.
But hey, i'm not practicing headbutt actively, so hopefully i'm not that dumb yet.:-P
That said, headbutts are'nt that bad in close range, and do have a tendency to cut your opponent. So they're not entirely worthless.

A random stranger bleeding every where in a fight is not necessarily a good thing. I only use my head for head blocks while pummeling, rear choke escapes, and takedowns.

Unless you actually lick the blood off him, it's unlikely to hurt you. I ended a minor fight with a headbutt once. Knocked him over, smashed his nose, blood everywhere, got nothing on me. By the same logic, punching people in the nose is something best avoided, because they could have AIDS and kill you.
Getting blood contracted diseases is harder than you seem to think. You can wash your hands with AIDS infected blood and still not have much chance of getting sick, unless you have big gashes on your hands.

And by the way, I meant more like competitions where headbutts are allowed.

I've saw one of those tournaments once. It seemed to me like they overutilized the headbutting in favour of the more technical MMA aspects. One of the fights was with a big guy lying in a smaller guy's guard for the entirety of the match and using short headbutts. Won by decision, boring-ass match, lots of blood.

So by that theory would you say headbutting to the crotch is a viable tactic?
Sure, but it'll look like you're giving 'em a BJ.

The area of your skull which you use for headbutting should be just above the forehead, preferably the area between your eyebrows. IT SHOULD NEVER BE THE AREA ABOVE THE TEMPLES!!!!
I'm not sure what kind of a mutant you are, but my eyebrows are not above my forehead.
