I have a bet with my twin brother: He takes either Kendo or sports fencing, I take some form of wrestling. He wins if he gets me with his weapon, I win if I grapple him, disarm him and throw, trip him etc then put him in a hold, or throw him and he gives up.
What is the easiest path to amalgamating my wrestling knowledge?

Yes, I meant "combine into a whole". I figure I already know enough "wrestling" to disarm my sword-waving brother and pin him. How do I make it into a unified system I can access to throw his arse on to a mat and take his weapon away?

The half-nelson, the full-nelson, a sort-of armdrag, the scissors grip, the crash-tackle, squeezing the opponent's legs together until they topple over, the hammerlock, the forward leglock, the reverse leglock, the eyerake, the eyepoke, an armlock I poached from Tae Kwon Do, the Chelsea scream and I'm working on a flying mare. Oh and fingertwists.

Of course I use the nelsons on the ground. Standing nelsons are virtually useless. I asked wrestlers about the correct names for moves, learning for example that what I called the "face scrounger" is more politely called the "eye rake."
I did have a wrestling manual, but it was so crap I sold it.

I would say avoid the sword and shoot for the takedown, after that just put the nelson on and pin him.
If he is taking western fencing and uses a knife like an epee my money is on him.
Tried this against a fencer and he stabbed me several times before I could get him. But Tran was very fast to begin with.

If it's kendo you have a chance. If it's fencing, good night. Kendo-draw him into committing to a deep attack. Fencing-get stabbed.

What do you mean by him "getting" you with his weapon? Does he just have to "cut" or stab you with it? If so, then you are pretty screwed. Even if he just has a fake knife, you're going to get "cut". Just try giving someone a magic marker. Have them try to mark you with it as you try to take it from them without getting ink on you. Remember, "real" people don't do those exaggerated over-the-head stabs or deep, deep thrusts that you see taught in TMA dojos. They can use quick slashes. I can only imagine that a rapier would be even worse.
Just remember: Grappling is not the end-all and be-all of fighting. Against a weapon, stand-up is better. Actually, running away is usually the best defense against a real weapon.

Dude, most of your moves sound like pro-wrestling. If you are wanting to beat him with wrestling, may I suggest learning REAL wrestling first.
