Let us begin with this bold statement of fact: when it comes to Phil Elmore I am NOT impartial. The word that leaps to mind, like a young salmon frolicking in crystal waters of a mountain river, unaware of the grizzly just around that next bend, is “biased”.

I despise the guy. I didn’t used to. Back when Bullshido was shiny and new and I was a fresh-faced young martial artist, still on my first pair of training shoes, I quite liked Sharp Phil ....

WHat exactly does Phil Enmore teach ? Has he made up his own martial arts style ? Or does he slap bits and pieces together of what he has learnt ? Is he one of the anti-grapple crowd ?

If there is an "official" reaction to this, I predict it will have all or some of the following components:

* Aspersions towards my character, specifically that I am a big fat coward because I don't post under my real name

* Intimations that I am jealous of Phil's "success" as a writer

* Suggestions that I am obviously a lonely bitter spinster who wants Phil so desperately I can't control myself
* Collory to this: I may simply be called an ugly butch lesbian
* further Collory: the idea that I am actually a man may be presented

* Political namecalling -- I will be referred to as either a socialist (since I'm Canadian) or a liberal (since I have contempt for people who are heavily armed for no reason)

* Style bashing -- the fact that one part of my training is BJJ will be used to dismiss me as a groundfighting nut, or sport fighter, ignoring that I have many, many more years of standup (in various styles) and weapons training (in Kali) behind me

BY the way, before anyone freaks out over the suggestion: Phil actually IS a better writer than I am. By that I mean his is a more competant technician and writes a more sophisticated style. Writing is like MA, if you don't train you lose your grip. I haven't written in FAR too long, I'm rusty and my structure is weak. I repeat phrases and my paragraphing is a laugh.

BY the way, before anyone freaks out over the suggestion: Phil actually IS a better writer than I am.

No he is not. His writing is dull, with poor cadence and long winded. He would be much better to write concisely.

He's a better technician than I am. Even I find some of his stuff funny. I just don't want anyone shooting themselves in the foot by claiming I'm better and using that to defend me.
