I don't know if this is a country or school specific question, but I was wondering if BJJ white belts are permitted to enter competitions?

Not that I'm getting ahead of myself but I would interested in competing if I don't suck real bad at it.

You can generally enter whatever you want.

BJJ competitions are generally split into belt divisions, and they most often will have a white belt one. Barring sandbagging, this means you can generally enter without fear of getting unduly folded, spindled and mutilated on your first time out.

Worst case scenario, you lose embarassingly, as long as you remember to tap when you need to. Like if somebody starts using an illegal technique or something, first try to let the ref know, but if he ain't listening, and you're about to be injured, just tap.

EDIT: Also, a warning, don't assume your opponents will be clean. If you start bleeding, or he starts bleeding, RUN don't walk to the nearest water source and disinfect the **** out of any wounds. I caught herpes (not genital, for whoever is going to joke about this) from a guy at a tournament, no joke.

Submission (Blood Borne Virus)?

That may be the most awful thing I've heard today, you poor unlucky bastard.

Additionally, when rolling as a beginner, tap if someone is twisting, pulling or cranking any piece of you in a way that you don't understand. Just because it doesn't hurt yet doesn't mean it's not a submission.

You can enter, but if you do no-gi be prepared to have more wrestlers than BJJers in your division. Our tournaments here go on years of training rather than belts so it gets even worse.

No proper tournament will let white belts do heel hooks. Protect your legs all the same, but it's unlikely that anyone will do something to you that you have yet to see in class.

Do they not have white belt divisions down there?

What to you would be an embarassing loss?

I am going to enter an upcoming Machado tournament hopefully if I think I am doing good enough in class with the other white belts who just got done competing in a local tournament.

An embarassing loss? You flop around like a fish out of water and tap quickly.

Ahhh, well I don't think that will happen to me. I am not great, but I can atleast handle myself for awhile.

I think my main problem is going to be takedowns and takedown defense. I need to start going Sunday's and working on my takedowns ;(

Anyone know how the weight divisions break up?

I am going to be stuck in Heavyweight with these fucking wrestling monsters who are strong beyond all reason.

Do you people read your tournament fliers or just ask the internet?

It's fine in training, it's the point of training, you just don't want it to happen when you're going up against somebody who's supposed to be on your level.

I've always made the mistake of lacking aggression at tournaments, remember, he who dares, wins. If you don't go for a submission, you might stay safer, but you won't win. Never leave it up to the judges if you can help it. Also, try to avoid pulling guard if you can help it, it looks gay to the judges.

I Choke You:

Are you fucking serious? Im assuming you meant you caught Herpes Gladitorum or wrestlers herpes as its referred to, but my question is was he in the midst of an outbreak? There are supposed to be people that check for any skin borne diseases in tournaments, although none of them really do. I would sue the **** out of the promoter for that and take a bat to the fucker you trained with.

I had a close call a few weeks ago when I didnt know whether I had herpes or impetigo (they look strikingly similar) and I almost killed the skanky ho that had it and still trained, thereby spreading it to all of us at the gym. Luckily, turns out it was impetigo.

Since we're on the topic though, assuming you've got the wrestlers herpes, does that **** clear up and go away permanently, or is there still a possibility that you can have an outbreak again like a cold sore?

**EDIT**

Oh yeah BTW- white belts can enter any tournament that has a white belt division. To my knowledge, the only tournaments that dont have white belt divisions are the Pan Ams and the Mundials, most likely because they were formed back when you werent allowed to compete until you were a blue belt (times have changed since then)

Also, the Mundials for white belts would be hilarious.
