Never seen her fight.
ehh... her record is something like 3-7, she's not exactly top tier. She's doing what she loves and she got a chance to fight two high level boxers which is really cool, but she's not the most talented of fighters.
EDIT: actually you have seen her fight if you watched that Mia St John fight =P

no disrespect was read into your post, don't worry about it. Lana is simply not a great boxer, like most people out there.

In maleīs boxing there are boxers "specialized" in being the "test" for up and coming ring promises.
I think Iīve read something about it motnhs ago in an article called "The ten worst jobs in sports".
This kinda boxer is somebody who never made it to the top, but loves bpxonmg and keeps on it, altrough with no hope of "getting there" someday, and boxing isnīt his primary income. Sometimes, they even get extra cash by acting as a sparring partner for higher ranked boxers.
As one of those boxers said, "if a young and promising boxers cannot beat me, the kid has no businnes in this sport".
Iīve always looked at these boxers with a little melancholy, they got this "beauty loser" looks about them, like a character from a Raymond Carver novel.
On the other hand, as Kidspatula pointed, her friend competes in a sport she loves, and does what she loves.
I donīt know if the practitioners base in womenīs boxing is wide enough for a character as Iīve described to exist. Maybe Kidspatulaīs friend has more chances to "getting there" someday than his male counterparts. Or maybe she will just become that kinda boxer.
I donīt know exactly where I wanted to get with this, but I feel like posting it anyway.
Oh, and just so you know, until very recently, the WIBF light flywieght champion was spanish, María Jesus Rosa (http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=023339), until she went up a division to fight for the flywight title, losing the fight, unluckily. Sorry, Iīve got no videos of her.
Oh, and Merry Christmas (I donīt wanna fight tonight) and Happy New Year and all that stuff.

Even if I had the chance to step in the ring with an exceptional fighter, that I knew I wasn't ready for. I wouldn't do it.
They have people in boxing that they bring up slow, because they know they can make money off of them. Then you have other fighters who are setup to lose. I wouldn't take this fights. A lot of people fight for the wrong reasons, like money.
If you friend loves boxing and she happens to not be great at it. I think she needs to have fights with people more her speed. How many amateur fights did she have before going pro?

2 of her fights were with boxers out of her league (St. John and Martin) and the rest were pretty low level. I talked to her about it and she felt really excited to get a chance to fight against these top tier boxers, even if she knew she didn't have much of a chance. The money was definitely a perk, but she's a baker for a living and doesn't really fight for money at all.
I have no clue how many amateur fights she'd had before going pro.

Yea well, if you have ever seen Cinderalla Man(sp?) then you know that you can catch someone on a bad day.
Some styles just don't mix well, but I would have to see your friend fight to actually know what you are talking about when you say she isn't that good ;)

Okay, watched them all, some comments:
Collins Beatdown (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/572/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
I HATE what the chick in white is wearing, it's an insult. She looked like a fucking runway model in gloves. Couple of decent shots in there, but the hideousness of the "outfit" wrecks it.
Women's thai fight 1 (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/571/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
Decent moves, but they looked weak. *sigh* The great plague of woman's contact sports. A guy throwing those punches and knees might have actually hurt someone.
Christi Martin Beatdown (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/570/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
Awesome! More please!
Kikuchi Naoko vs Regina Halmich Thai fight (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/569/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
Great fight. Leaving aside the weak looking knees they were throwing in the clinch, technique was smooth and clean, they both moved like fighters and even the clothes were good. The Japanese chick looked good, and she had the shoulder hunch I've started to associate with really nice punches. Shows what a decent body blow can do.
OYoriko vs. LRijker Thai Fight (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/567/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
I love Lucia. I would be honored to have her kick my ass. She fights like a man -- and that's the highest honor I can give a female kick-boxer. She rocks.
Ann Wolfe KO (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/566/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
God damn, that's a nice punch. It's also nice to see a woman getting INTO her win like that, but it was a TAD classless.
Gibbs vs. Hennin kickboxing 1 (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/894/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
Gibbs vs. Hennin kickboxing 2 (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/895/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
This is what I want the future of women's combat sports to look like, fast, athletic and smooth.
Linley vs Arriola Thai Fight (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/896/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
These are the best knees I've seen so far, and a good match. I would be happy to pay money to see that live.
Lana Alexander vs. Mia St John boxing 1 (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/899/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
Sorry, but I didn't like the quality of this one. Too many big, sloppy amateur punches. Looked like two kids in a school yard.
Lana vs Mia Boxing 2 (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/898/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
See above. But at least they were FIGHTING, not dancing around.
Robinson vs. Nunez boxing match (http://bullshido.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/897/cat/500/ppuser/10200)
That's some of the best hand speed I've seen in women's boxing. A1.
Thanks kid. I love seeing this stuff, gives me hope.

Well, the video is right on this thread (Mia st. John vs. Lana Alexander)
Ahh, that is the one I didn't watch since it was taking a long time to load for some reason.
I'll watch it and I'll get back to you on what I think.
Also, on that last boxing match with the 2, 3 knockout I wish the quality was better so I could see the connection of the punch.

about 3 weeks and I'll have MY fight video up for all to see and scoff at
Don't tell me you look like that mangled baby in your avatar?
I saw the fight and your friend looked out of shape and intimidated, seems like she was scared to fight and that she didn't really prepare herself, even though she said she was going to lose before the fight even took place, which to me isn't a good idea.
Oh well, I guess we weren't all meant to win championships eh?
