You put .net last? I put it first. Programming for a software platform is the future and .NET is very well done.

Languages I know are VB, Java, C#, C/C++, machine, prolog, and python. I use vb.net at work.

To all the people going on and on about Grond's forearm choke:
I never said forearm chokes were a great technique. All I said is forearm chokes give me(not you) a hard time.
;) Well, I came from .NET.

I learned Java in school, but spent 2 years coding .net apps including (either alone or with a max of 2 junior coders):

- contract/lease mgmt sys for >$1bil of contract/lease data for major local hospital; easy enough to use that all execs manage their own contracts/use it to delegate contracts.
- real-time energy trading and monitoring application to let local power companies trade with the regional ISO
- project management/cms/project tracking/client-contractor collaboration system for prefab construction company.
- number of portal-style sites: a healthcare portal for large local hospital that let users manage and track anything about their bodies (with integrated data-mining and bayesian techniques to both weed out suspicious (fake) and vital (user on the system has recorded steadily increasing blood pressure) data.
- site-management tool for PR companies that lets them edit and organize their entire site structure, including a lot of dynamic tricks that they'd have had to use custom programming for (like "this page should be called 'My Articles' and should show the last 10 pages the user visited"; non-programmers add features like that to the system regularly). I had to use some Lisp for this one, in an interpreted layer on top of .NET.

So, I went as far as I could with .NET. Spring.NET to decouple, nHibernate to reduce to practically zero the amount of SQL I ever had to write, open-source profiling to let me avoid doing ANY optimization until the last moment, TestDriven.NET for testability, nDoc for documentation. My own stuff to reduce the coupling in the interface side of things for webapps, as there are not yet any good web MVC frameworks for .net.

It wasn't enough to keep me from burning out. To succeed in contract work, we had to pull so much work in that we constantly had two times as much as we could handle at any given time. And even then, I was sure that we could handle it, but we had to graduate up to languages that didn't handcuff us (ie, first-class functions, dynamic typing, lexical scope, macros). There is only so much that development in limited languages can be sped up.

edit: so, I quit, started pulling contract jobs of my own, and handled them in more powerful languages. I was able to reduce my total number of hours to around 60 per week now, and I can take off a week here and there as necessary if I know ahead of time; I recently went out to the Startup School at Harvard with 70 or so other really good hackers.

p.s. -- you mentioned prolog! Fantastic language. I use it with Common Lisp and AllegroCache for queries of arbitrary data.

I know a few subs from inside the guard. They all work. I got a crucifix neck crank, a shoulder lock, and a collar choke.

Industrial and Systems Engineers Raise Your Fists!!!

Hehehe, beyond the false ego trip, I found it really hard to hit hard, it didnt feel like people really wanted to go all out, but I am all for getting clocked in the face so long as I am going against someone I have a chance with. Was there some sort of unsaid rule? I kinda just went with the flow and caught on to what everyone else was doing, light full contact sparring.

I normally let my opponent set the pace unless I have a reason to go hard from jump.

Maybe I missed it, but why are we supposed to fight? Because MaverickZ got himself banned?

Nope ... cuz you are a smart assed punk fuktard and I enjoy stomping shitwipes like you into oblivion ... hobby of mine actually. Wanna play you gutless mouth boxing sack of pig ****?

You spent douche bags don't get it ... the Maryland Throwdown Crew is diversified in chosen disciplines and unified as a Group. Speaking just for me ... I'll gladly go to war on behalf of any other member of the Crew ... no one would ever have to ask me more than once. The BEAST

You want to fly out Osiris and Aesopian for a grudge match because they are posting criticism of kikkoman's grappling skills on your thread, and you want to add me to the bill for asking questions? The MASSACRIST

Let me clarify something for you ... 'tard boy. Osiris posted that he was willing to set aside his time of whatever in order to beat the **** out of me. Then he didn't have the money to make it happen ... the Maryland TD Crew stepped up and offered him FREE roundtrip airfare ... room & board. Groundcontrolba made the generous offer.

Now to the Heart of the matter. Criticism is something that is context specific. I don't give a **** about Osiris as he's a light weight fukwit that wouldn't survive much beyond first contact with me ... ditto for the flamer Queer Aesopian.

Neither Osiris nor Aesopian amount to anything so their "criticism" is neither needed nor merited. We have plenty of solid BJJ & Grapplers on the MD TD Crew ... we take care of our own.

Kikkoman is a young guy who has impressed me with his willingness to step up and take whatever comes his way. We have a bunch of very decent, willing to work and take their lumps kind of guys. Allegedly, that's what this forum promotes ... shitstains like you offer proof of a different agenda.

WE don't need any bullshit from armchair warrior wannabes and if someone decides to take a cheap shot at one of our members ... I have no problems stepping up to defend one of my own.

Since none of you 3 fukwits are in or near Maryland ... and since none of you gutless tossers have any inclination of putting yourself on the line ... STFU. Simple really. You aren't involved so just STFU ... get it now ... used asswipe? The BEAST

This is the reason I just lurk in JFS's shadow. Just to let you guys know our Throwdown crew is very tight. Don't **** with our fighters. Advice and Critique is cool, but half of that **** with Kikko was just personal attacks.

*waits in THE BEAST's shadow with a knife for when things to get ugly*

This JFS guy seems very cool, in a good-guy-to-have-on-your-side-in-the-real-world way.

However, I am not sure he is cool in a moderate-an-interweb-forum way. I get the feeling that his first act as moderator would be to ban everyone not in the maryland td crew.
