During bjj class i keep getting side mounted. To remedy this i was taught how to shrimp crawl into the gaurd. When somone has a goood tight sidemount on me i can't seem to shrimp out to gaurd.

Does anyone know anygood shrimping techniques or any techniques to get into a better position while sidemounted.

There was a thread in this section a while ago about escaping from side-mount, there's tons of good techniques in there, go find it.

Instead of shrimping back to guard or halfguard, try shrimping to all fours and yanking their legs out from under them or standing back up.

That's what I do, but I thought I was doing it wrong.

I sometimes have to alternate between trying to shrimp and trying to bridge over the trapped side to get to all fours.

Once you progress from shrimping to prawning, you will be one step closer to lobstering, teh king of all crusteacian based techniques.

We were doing side mount escapes last night and I asked this question and the response I got was, "Start your escape before your opponent gets fully into the position."

Correct.

It's like waiting til an armbar is fully extended and then asking how to get out. Sorry - your chances of escape are reduced dramatically when the position is locked down. The time to work your shrimping, etc is right when your opponent passes your guard.

There is a moment before he can settle down into control. If you let this moment pass you have created exponentially more work for yourself.

alot of how you get out of side mount depends on the type of side mount your opponent is in. Against a wrestling type side mount I like to trap the away arm and reach up with the near leg to hook the head and roll into a triangle.
