It's the same, Moore was a Richard Lee student in the late 60's, but both started in the Tracy kenpo system.
The staged mass attack, and how effective is the question. what is a mass attack?
One man attacking at a time from different location of your circle, or five at a time.
It works like this, a group (gang) has a pecking order. Leader, second, third, this could be best fighter, or just a crazy. after the first (Best) fall do you think the rest are going to jump in one at a time after seeing their best laid out? Ever been in a bar fight, one or two fighters in the group, the rest just mouth. Five untrained men all at the same time, money would still be on them, no matter the system.
Please, all three of these systems are fine systems, depending on the practioner and his or her instructor.
Ok. I just wanted to make sure there was no confusion. These systems are idiotic. Please let us all let this thread die now.
I did a search for shou shu, and this was one of the threads that came up. I've head alot about shou shu. how they dont spar, they have the whole "take down like 5 people". I've been in shou shu for about 6 months.
my school is not called moore's Karate... Moore's "karate"... shou shu is kung fu.. not karate.. so instantly i think those guys a fucking retarts. I have had lessons in both schools and so has my shifu. my school is called sheng chi. and from what i have heard from my shifu is that moore's teaches differently because al moore junior is a mcdojo king. lol anyways
he said to me its more like moore's karate is southern style and sheng chi is northern. he expresed moore's as kempo with hip, and has even heard all moore jr. say that.
my shifu has never said anything like beating up a whole bunch of guys.. (except at a bar once.. but the guys we untrained and drunk) all the war stories i hear he did when he was with moore's karate. they would just go out and start fights (barhopping).
I have heard a few bullshit stuff like chi and what not. but i think its more of a mentality chi then a chi blast for instance .. hehe..
but i have found that the art is rather powerful. we do bag work so its not like its all theoretical... the only problems i have are all the eye spears and stuf like that.. i mean when am i going to eye spear someone. take someones sight away for the rest of their life, so i can then go to jail... that sounds like fun. i used to think this art was all about hurting people as bad as possible..
but we have a higher belt who is thinking about going into some mma fighting. so my shifu is going to train him in locks and holds so he is well rounded. also he is going to help him adjust himself so that he can fight in the ring leagaly without all the eye gourging stuff.
well hope this helps, got any question i will ask my shifu for u guys.

So, in your vast six months of experience you've come to the conclusion that doing bag work makes an art powerful. How often do you get to punch someone in the face?

Don't worry, unless you're fighting unconscious people, I don't think you need to worry about landing any of those deadly eye spears, so you're probably safe from jail. Of course, you're going to get your ass beat, but you won't go to jail.

In all seriousness, tell your friend to go and learn mma fighting and grappling from someone who, I dunno, actually knows something about those things. Learning "locks and holds" from some eye gouging Shifu will just give him a false sense of security and get him hurt in mma.
:bully:
shush man i want to see footage of yet another deluded idiot getting assreamed by a mma fighter

sry about the way i explained that, what I ment was the way we put our hips into our hits makes it feel very powerful. feel being the key word (im sure shou shu is not the only art that uses the hips-they do it in sports like baseball, golf and what not to hit harder. why not kung fu?) and when i said the bag part i ment we try it on each other and I've felt many myself from people my own size.. (im about 120lbs 5'9") it feels powerful to me. but your right I dont have experience in other arts. I wish there were some good ones in my area. I admit i would love to try some others out.

I have no doubt if i fought with what little i know now i would get beat-pretty bad, but some of the strikes are. instead of a punch to the face or or heelpalm the attack is switched to a eye spear to try and do more damage. seems pretty risky to me. i would rather punch.

I will agree with u on that 100% why go into a mma tournament without doing some mma? kinda silly, but if he does go and do it i will record it for you guys. so i can get it rubed in my face. even more hehe...
:bully:
anyways my point to this post was to say that what most people think of this art, is a different school then where i go... we gear up and do full contact, we practice with bags. its not a "oh we cant touch its too deadly" kind of thing. just trying to clarify that there is a moore's karate and there is a sheng chi kung fu. so yup
why is it that kung fu geeks are almost always hilariously skinny. **** man, my FIGHTING weight is 20 pounds heavier than that you walk around at and im an inch shorter. and i am hardly what you would call well built, in fact im the tallest guy ive met in my weight division.
protip- spend less time at kung fooo and more time hitting the weights
I am starting to get into weights, so i can build up some. the place I'm at does have a pretty nice weight room... so thats always nice.
not sure if this is a myth. dont u need some good amount of body fat to build up muscle, cause im deff lacking in that deppartment.. no matter how much i lift i dont seem to change size... am i not lifting enough weight? tips?
eat more. and before you say you already eat heaps, ill bet that you dont and that its all junk crap.
DRINK MILK AND SQUAT, BITCH
haha my metabolism is against me :XXfridge:

sheng chi and moores 'karate' each teach shou shu, so how is one northern and the other southern? i took shou shu for two years. actually had to use them eye spears once, worked alot better than repeated punches to the grill. i did alot of sparring there too, though some of the schools may not spar till you get higher up in rank. actually i found shou shu to be- wait did you just call me a retart?
