I see that a few Wing Chun Masters are learning BJJ:
http://www.kamonwingchun.com/Brazilian%20Jiu-Jitsu.asp
http://www.weng-chun.com/bjj/
Can we expect to see a fusion style soon? WCBJJ?
It would be all powerful. All the weaknesses of BJJ could be fixed with WC!
and BJJ could learn to strike! and Kick, and ........
Eye Gouge!!!
But seriously, if they are adding BJJ, as its own program, than they are just another MMA. MT and BJJ seems popular, why not WC and BJJ.
I have long advocated that the Gracie method of running through the different patterns, setting locks, then allowing your partner to escape and set one on you, is chi sau. You must learn to feel the set up and counter then, not once you are fully submited. That would be like blocking punchs AFTER they break your nose!!
This is anti-grappling. :bootyshak
The problem is when people spend all their time tapping each other out. Opposite problem of just doing Chi Sau standing up.
If the WC incorperates the BJJ into the system, following WC theorys, that would be cool. :blob1:

Ok, all this when did you start, how long did you train, who is your Sifu crap proves the point that legitamite organaztions that offer certificates and levels are a good idea. I have all my certificates over the years, showing my levels and test dates, and thus, my continuous years of training (and the long periods between a few levels). :5yinyang:
I also have my Instructor License from my organization(and from my former one).
I hear all this. "thats Mcdojo" talk, but it solves alot of issues.
doesn't prove if I can fight, ofcoarse, so don't go there.... :new_infin

Because when he tried to 'chain-palm' it made him look like Eddie Honda from Streetfighter, and all his non-WingTsun buddies laughed so hard their beer frothed up through their nostrils.
Sorry, but if you were able to feel your self a real palm Strike you won´t laught much because is pretti painful, I have saw it with my own eyes, and certanly I´ve feel that kind of shock is not bullshit is real, but only the most advanced tecnical degrees use it, and just in some ocations, but it work´s!

Leung Ting grappling is crappling. Emin is a badass but you don't learn too much wrestling/grappling/submission in EBMAS.

Yes it does, and he is not the only guy in the system who can fight.
A palm strike is not a slap. It is a strike, using the bones at the end of the ulna and radius. Since the multiple bones in the hand are avoided, it is much harder than a fist, which can diffuse some force through all the bones of the hand.
The hand being open creates surface area going in case the enemys attack comes into your space. Your open hand can catch it, and turn into pak sau (or Jum).
Then there is the edges of the hand in spade or fak or whatever, but thats another story.

You realize almost anybody who's ever done MMA rules has, at some point, sparred with "open hands only"? And that there's palm strikes in other systems and they aren't reserved for "the most advanced technical degrees"?

And in a fight it turns into a bitchslap.
Dr._Tzun_Tzu
9/01/2005 1:32pm,
It turns into a bitch slap if you favor curved attacks in practice.
If you favor straight attacks, in a fight it is very different.
But you have to learn this as an "Advanced Technique"... :icon_geek

The contact area of a fist (knuckles) is much smaller that that of open palm. Plus there's soft tissue on your palm that will diffuse the force as well.
But that all is really irrelevant because it is the rest of the body that gives the power to your punch.
Among all the punches I think the hook has most power and it is really difficult to do a propper hook with open palm.

Its not a surface area thing. It is a diffusion thing. The many joints in the hand and wrist give (or may give) lessening the force transfered from the body to the target. The vertical palm strike has a very small, padded surface area, above two very long bones, no joints. The padding compresses, and the damage goes through.
Sidenote: The surface area of the protruding knuckle can be TOO SMALL, causeing it to break. This would cause you to lose alot of damage into your own finger. This is why vertical punch is better (upper 2 finger or lower 3).
