From Special forces training in Hapkido and kajukenbo.
To the Navy S.E.A.LS and Army Rangers of Vietnam who were trained by Jhoon Ree in TKD.

To the old school days of eye gouges and uppercut palm strikes.
The Armed Forces have utilized a wide variety of martial arts and incorporated them in the everyday training of elite units.
Even now the Armed forces have adopted a Modified form of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for use against close one on one combat situations.
They have taken a page from the Russian KGB who trained their Agents in Sambo (Sombo).
It seems that Martial Arts like TKD, Hapkido, and even Kenpo have been castrated by greedy "Fake" Martial Artists.

It astounds me to see Local / Nation wide Martial Art schools handing out black belts like it's a candy apple to 6-10 year olds.
These styles are / were useful.
It hurts to see them westernized into a useless suburban hobby.

What happened to the Real Teachers?

Just for the sake of a good forum Conversation I'm not going to comment on MMA fights for the simple fact that Submission Grappling is superior in any One on One situation, I feel this is my own subjective opinion but from my own experiences it holds some form of merit.

I'd like to know each of your opinions on the decline of real martial arts.

enjoy :eusa_danc

well that settles it. since JollyRoger says tkd, hkd, and kenpo are useless. it has to be true.

Actually i never said they were useless.
On the contrary, i believe they are effective but only if the teacher actually knows what he/she is doing.

I was trying to point out that these arts / Styles are still utilized by Both U.S. Special Forces and other Military services world wide.
Yet it seems that a lack of good schooling by "Fake" Teachers has made these arts laughable knock offs.
In my personal Defense i am not trying to insult, offend, or ridicule any one individual or specific martial art but simple to have a fun discussion and to get to know everyone here a bit more.

But seriously isnt that true with any Art ?... its basicly useless if your instructor sucks and you dont know how to apply the techniques you were half assed taught ?

Agreed.
But why is it that we have a lack of good teachers now a days?

There is a "Karate" school not to far from where i reside.
Now what urks me just a little is the fact that the instructor claims to be a Master Of Traditional Karate.

Yet he holds down a beer belly, hands out black belts to upper middle class children who are not even 7 years old, and then rants about how great he is....

It's as if he enjoys spitting on his own self proclaimed style.
I don't know why it bothers me, Maybe its because the kids there actually think they are learning how to defend themselves--
I had a conversation with one of his older students who laughed when i told him that i felt ground fighting was something he should look into.

He stood up in defense of his school (rightly so i suppose) and actually said this to me:

"Ok i want you to grab my wrist just like this, and then try and twist it"

I tried explaining that if he were unfortunate enough to encounter a real aggressor that i highly doubt the person would "Hold his wrist just like this and try and twist it"
None the less the older teen seemed to brush off the advice :(

Belts snatched from the down-trodden hands of far more deserving working class kids who had to sell matches on frozen streets in order to pay for their lessons.

Just another outrage that capitalism will one day have to answer for.

JollyRoger, you do know that knightmare was being sarcastic, right?

if you have a look around this site you'll notice that what you are talking about has already been discussed quite thoroughly over the last couple of years.

have a look through these articles, you might find them very interesting:

You raise many good questions/points --- but they haven't just been beaten to death in these forums -- they've been beaten, cremated, and the ashes scattered across the Internet.
