don't forget the variation - loosen up the gi and punch the jaw with the lapel grip to get the throw.

Judo's got some nasty stuff - people are too quick to dismiss it as "just a sport".

That's really the only way o-sotogari should be done.

As for the "just a sport" thing, that's exactly why judo is so effective.

I agree. I still get people saying "judo's cool, but Olympic judo isn't practical...." What?

I don't know any competitive judoka who considers that technique "dirty judo". It's accepted technique. As for the "gentle art" thing, that technique or not, there's very little gentle about competitive judo.
