In light of another thread discussing whether or not Bullshido members as a whole train more realistically than the members of any other MA forum out there, we wanted to get your feedback on the subject.

Standup/striking:1-2

Groundfighting: 3-4

Full contact grappling. We just started the MMA class, so no sparring there yet.

Yes, we compete. We had guys go to the Pan-Ams, and a guy is training for a MMA fight.

I haven't competed yet.

Goose Egg.

2.5 years if you count Temple Kung Fu as a MA. I got kocked around pretty hard in TKD usually, so I'll count it as 0.5 Therefore, 1 year of "alive" training so far.

Umm... that Rad Ki kid... he's probably the only person who couldn't kick my ass. :P

No cash. :(

About how many real fights/self defense situations have you been in, in which you had to rely on your training and did so successfully

I have used my training as a part of my job ( when I was a SGT in the U.S. Army).

How many years have you been training martial arts in total, and how many of those years were spent training using "alive" methods such as near/full contact sparring/rolling making up a large portion of your training time?

I laughably attempted to learn how to fight from books and magazines as a young teenager. There weren't any martial arts schools where I grew up. My brother, some friends, and I, would wrestle each other in our backyards. Around 1997 I started training in WuShu under an army buddy of mine who had been promoted to black sash before he joined. When I got out of the Army in 2000, I continued training WuShu, then started Wing Chun in which I trained for less than a year, and then started training in American Jujitsu around 4 years ago.

Total "alive" training time: 4 years.

If you could fight anyone on Bullshido in an NHB setting (UFC/Pride Rules), who would it be and why

I'd like to fight J-Lau, but I need an assload of work on my cardio before I can even keep up with him stamina-wise, much less on the ground in general.

And finally:

Are you coming to the Throwdown in Atlanta? If not, why not?

In all likelyhood, yes.

This weekend I am moving to OKC for a job at Tinker AFB, I will be leaving behind my current teams and clubs, my training. I need to find somewhere to continue.

No contact- shadow boxing, line drilling, bag work, forms, etc.
Light Contact- technique drills, focus mitts and thai pads
Medium Contact- warm up rolling, mitts and pads
Near-Full Contact- a couple times a week
Full Contact- ocassionally

Does your Gym/Dojo/Kwoon/Knitting Circle have a competition team:

I train with 5 different groups/classes, from them we have the following.

Yes, we compete in forms and demonstrations
Yes, we compete in point-"fighting"
Yes, we compete in a major contact/grappling sport (Kickboxing, San Shou, Sub Grappling, Sport Jiujitsu).

How many years have you been training martial arts in total, and how many of those years were spent training using "alive" methods such as near/full contact sparring/rolling making up a large portion of your training time?

Roughly 7, I include my two seasons of high school wrestling and the one yer of TKD I had as a kid. I have participated only once or twice in a class that did not advocate alive methods, and I have no intention of ever joining such a place.

If you could fight anyone on Bullshido in an NHB setting (UFC/Pride Rules), who would it be and why

BatRonin & Asia cause I am a glutton for punishment ^_^ Knightmare, Kiev, Strangler, & "Hi I am David, I do rad ki" cause I enjoy hurting the weak*. Maverick, Osiris, Dochter, Aesopian, and Phrost for a good time. Shumagorath because he needs to pay for posting so many stileproject pics.

Are you coming to the Throwdown in Atlanta? If not, why not?

If I can 1. charter a greyhound or get a lift from someone who will be driving through OK and 2. have a place CHEAP (preferably free) to stay. September 3-4, right?

AikidoDeadlines
6/14/2005 3:52pm,
Right now I train in Aikido.

I train roughly 14 hours a week, most of this time being spent practising throws/takedowns, but a lot of these takedowns occur from strikes, so i'm not quite sure how to divide my time up between these 2 categories. Also a small amount of this time is spent with tanto/jo/shinai training, so this counts for weapons.

The training is all light contact, aside from me and my freind sparring full contact on fridays, but Im not sure if this really counts, as it is not part of my formal training.

My Aikido school has no competitive team, nor have I ever competed.

I have not ever fought anyone else, except for fun.

I have been training in martial arts for one year, and none of that time has been spent under majority "alive" training.

If I could fight one Bullshido member in a NHB setting it would probably be Asia, b/c I know he could totally kick my ass, and it would be a great learning experiance. Also, since Baji seems very similar in many ways to Aikido, it would be cool to feel his Baji in action in a NHB setting.

I may or may not be going to the Atlanta throwdown depending on my financial situation, and if school will interfere.

NOTE: As this thread is designed to reflect on whether or not Bullshido members train more realistically than members of other forums, I would like to note that visiting Bullshido has encouraged me to train in BJJ as well. I will begin training next week, as soon as the instructor returns from korea, and would already be training if he were here. I think that the fact that I will be training much more realistically, and in another range of combat, as a result of advice from people on Bullshido, should be factored into consideration of how realistically Bullshido members train.

Answer the following questions:

For the past year I have been pretty much on my own in training, kind of like a mad monk who lives in a cave all by himself.

How often per week do you train in each range of fighting:

Standup/Striking: a little bit every day
Clenchwork: ditto

13yrs.

I never really though about fighting anyone on Bullshido, so I don't really have an answer for this one.

And finally:

Are you coming to the Throwdown in Atlanta? If not, why not?

I hope so, if not, it would be due to time constraints most likely.

6/14/2005 5:13pm,
OK, honesty time, altrough I have always been honest whit what I do and what not.

How often per week do you train in each range of fighting:

Standup/Striking: 2(2 hour each)-3(1 hour each)

What level of contact do you use in your training:

Medium to hard, sometimes light. It depends on the level of the person you´re sparring. I usually go from light to medium, because I suck ass badly.

To put it in other words, soemtimes you can get a bruised eye, but nobody gets KO´ed.

Does your Gym/Dojo/Kwoon/Knitting Circle have a competition team:

We don´t have a team but our instructor takes us to amaetur fights if we want to, and if he thinks we´re in good condition, technically and physically.

Have you yourself competed in any of the above, and at what level?

I was in a local kata competition when I did karate years ago. I got a consolation trophy or some **** like that.

About how many real fights/self defense situations have you been in, in which you had to rely on your training and did so successfully

A couple of not serious brawls when I was a teenager. I owned two guys (different fights) with my waist chambered punches (really) at the time I was doing krotty.

How many years have you been training martial arts in total, and how many of those years were spent training using "alive" methods such as near/full contact sparring/rolling making up a large portion of your training time?

Two years of Shito Ryu Karate (orange belt). My "alive" kickboxing training totals one year, more or less.

If you could fight anyone on Bullshido in an NHB setting (UFC/Pride Rules), who would it be and why

I´d like to fight a lot of members, some of them because I´m certain they could teach me, and some others to test if they are as skilled as they made themselves appear to be (I have serious doubts about the skill level of some members here) some of them because they seem like they would put up a good fight, some of them because they deserve a punch in the face, and some of them because I like them and would like to spar them.

I´ll name a few and let others draw their own conclusions:

Ronin, PizDoff, Asia, Darkson, Ikken Isatsu, Phrost, Samurai_Steve, Patfromlogan, DCS (you owe it to me, buddy ;) ), Omar, Koto Ryu, JKDChick, Bad News Hughes, Wounded Ronin, and many more.

Are you coming to the Throwdown in Atlanta? If not, why not?

No, because ther is a whole ocean between the throwdown and me, and I don´t have money to travel there. Not to mention that I have to work. But I would love to go to a throwdown.
