Samuel Browning - I didn't pick up all the audio either. He mentions a few moves though - Skull & Crossbones or something.
The interview set up was horribly clunky (excuse me, are you a ninja/ex-SEAL/hardcore gangsta streetfighter? Can I film you for the intarweb?) But it seems that Lyte Burly is going to release a 52 DVD in June so I guess this is his first stab at a promo.
What he is doing looks a bit wing chunnish with some boxing and a lot of elbow covers. It looks like some of the written descriptions of the style but seemed more defensive and less aggressive. The 365 pounder was big but didn't look like that much of a fighter. However, I am not going to pass judgement based on 5 minutes of footage.
It will be interesting what the posters here who have seen the so-called real 52 make of these clips.
Now we have two guys who have publicly shown the 52 - Richard Garcia and Lyte Burly. Maybe the people who know this stuff have decided it is time to show it off/share it or maybe they saw all the discussions on the web and smelled a marketing opportunity.

In the video where he defends against the big dude, what I see seems to be boxing footwork plus crazy monkey shelling plus fancy distractions. Not bad, but not great. The big guy never really tried to jab his face.
Trace, the other moves mentioned were Triangle Trade, Black Man Rising, Closed Door - Open Door.

Prison martial art, eh?
I'm sure some of the names of other moves are:
"hug the sweaty root"
"bustin' the chocolat starfish"
"stabbin' his nasty corn canoe"
"butter the butt-biscuit"
"tossin' salad on Sunday"

Its interesting to note that people like DBMAs Marc Denny and others have talked about the shortcomings of the elbow cover against a knife attack you thought was a punch. That wouldn't happen in prison though.

Thanks for the detail Meng. I think your comments were spot on. I thought Crazy Monkey too.
Codos - that's a fair point but in this case they are slap boxing more or less. I read Doug Century's stuff about 52 blocks and it seemed to be more about street fighting than prison fighting. This guy's DVD supposedly comes out in June so maybe they will cover blades in that.
Then we will probably have a DVD on NY 52 Blocks and then on Alto 52s etc as a bunch of other people come out of the woodwork. This could be the new ninjamania...

5/25/2007 3:44pm,
new ninjamania? so basically, we'll have a couple of black Ashida Kims claiming to be the real ****, a few dojos where you drink malt licor as part of your conditioning, you train in the dark listening to loud rap music, a bunch of students training it, and not one successful fighter in combat sports using it as their style?

I would like to know if they consider this an accurate representation of 52 blocks.
My point exactly - what those videos show is absolute drizzling ****

Instead of ninjamania, hopefully we'll hear a few more counter voices to this new one, and get a bit more knowledge, maybe enough to discover more about the history and culture behind 52.

Comparing the first YouTube clip to the two 52s clips I was sent two years ago - hard call, there are definite similarities but the guys in my clips are monsters. I will pass these clips on to BrotherD and see what he has to say.
Further on this topic, there is a documentary currently in post production that will present the real 52s, according to BrotherD, Doug Century, Big K and others in the know.

I spoke too soon. Here are a couple of clips posted recently on youtube of a guy called Lyte Burly doing 52 blocks.

If that is da R3@! 52s then I hope every criminal in the world learns it. It will make it alot easier to deal with.

Century and Big K are actively discussing 52 blocks somewhere?

Not online, as far as I know, but yes.

Here's what BrotherD has to say about the YouTube clips -
I will be nice he has learned a little something his use is way off though.
the hands touching the forearms while catching the punch. when he claps his forearms together, and when he brings his hand over his head just before he ducks and throws the over hand and slips away... the rest he lacks understanding of the hitting while blocking and he never catching (except to be hit)... more JH than 52 flow...
peace
For clarity, "more JH than 52 flow" means that it's closer to JailHouse Rock than to the 52 Hand Blocks.
Still, IMO, it's an interesting demo. and the first time I can recall that anyone who has "learned a little something" of this stuff has gone public with it on video.

So would it be accurate to say there were perhaps traces of 52 in his movements? That would be like judging Shotokan by watching TKD.

I am reminded of an adage my former Muay Thai coach taught me. "Don't be monkey, be like water."
Also, how come every time I see a new and amazing hand only or boxing theory it looks to be immediately destroyed by a good leg kick? Even his footwork opens him up to it in a painful new way.

Sorry - I don't follow. Are you saying that knife attacks don't happen in prison?
