It's a good session, on the whole. I wish I'd been doing this sort of thing when I was your age - it wouldn't be so uphill for me now.
Charmin, does your kicking training involve throwing moving kicks across the floor? Like each kick is also one step? You have a bad habit I used to have, from competing in takedown illegal tournaments - and correcting it actually made me better NHB style AND better at point.
You pop the knee up, then hunt for the spot and complete the kick, and that's what's getting you wrapped up so much. In mma, if you're going to kick, you have to see the spot, kick to it, and get your foot back to the ground in one smooth motion, or you might as well just lay down :)
When you kick, remember how you come down is just as important to how you go up - that's the key to getting kicks into combos and suffering fewer shoots.
One question I have for both of you (and I guess for anybody else reading) - is there a biomechanical reason to drop the hands (specifically the lead hand) when throwing a thai kick? Is there something about Thai sparring I'm missing that makes this not an issue? The plus I can see is that your hands are right down there to put on his rising thigh/knee if he ripostes with the same sort of shot, is that the reason?

The way I learnt the round kick is that the hand on the same side you are throwing the kick with, shoots backwards to counter balance the kick. The other hand should defend the face.
So yeah, one hand drops, if the other is dropping then that is a problem.
Yes, we usually drill kicks moving up and down the room.
is this really worth downloading?

If you want to watch it. It took me two minutes, so it represented a minimal investment.
Well we weren't using our "box" style, so you'll be missing out there.

I assume you all agreed greater control of punches then at the Uk Throwdown 2, because there was some missed chances for ground and pound action and not many straight jab & cross shots going in with conviction.
Grant you have developed your ground game since having two formal lessons! You also had a bit of a weight advantage by the looks of things.
How was the venue, those boxed structures with the bags in between look like a bit of a hazard.
Any chance we make this a regular monthly get together for those of us in the South?

Still not comfortable throwing full power with these little gloves.

Yeah, around 2-3 weight classes I think.

Good place, we discovered he upstairs dojo a little too late, that is really nice.

We talked about this and it seemed like a really good idea so the next one will be in three weeks or so.

"controlled ownage" clause.

3 weight classes by Vale Tudo rules - 20kg more than me. I'd just like to point out that Grant tapped EVERYONE In the room, it wasn't JUST that I suck.

Whatever the results of the sparring, just turning up to these events and not just lurking or sniping from a PC (which we got a lot of before UKTD2) deserves praise.
And as for Grant I will come to the next one, bad ankle or not, just to punish him for stealing my overhand punch at the begining of round 2. This is a copywrite move, you will be hearing from my legal department....

Hahaha, connected beautifully though, don't you think?

Grant, Work a right roundhouse, right cross combo. Charmin was open for it everytime through the first sub of round 2.
Charmin, Don't block kicks with your palm, your instruction is flat out wrong on that. (that's something I'm still trying to get over from my bad old days too)
You're welcome to post any video's of me, and I haven't asked D_Vo but I am 99% positive that he wouldn't mind. Shame there weren't any of me Vs Charmin standing.

Absolutely tragic. I did even worse in our standing.
