Why is that? Why do fights end up on the ground? What happens is that people, first of all, are not learning real Gong Fu, so they don't have the necessary technique to avoid being taken to the ground. In how many ways you can take a person to the ground? Mainly 3 or 4, and the other techniques are only variations. Learn how to counter these movements, like the famous "double leg" or the Brazilian JJ "baiana." They are not difficult to defend. The Gong Fu style you practice should give you tools so you can deal with this techniques
Damn... I been doing the wrong **** all these years!
:angry7:
.
i found it strange that he never really mentioned any techniques to counter any of the grappeling. .....releasing the beast within

Kick boxing is ok, but don't expect do beat a man like Rickson Gracie with that. You need a real martial art. You need Xing Yi Quan.
Awesome.
In case you don't lack the above mentioned things and BJJ fighters still take you to the ground, well, then, train more.
So it's not the style that failed it's you that failed the style.
That is the biggest piece of **** that I've ever had the displeasure of reading.

Concepts work in any situation; they work standing or on the ground. A very good example is about how to defend a punch. You have to look deep in to the movement (the punch) and understand that before being a punch, it's a straight force. So if you learn how to defend straight force attacks, and not only a punch, you can defend (using the same movement) a punch, a frontal kick, a side kick, a wrestlers double leg or a BJJ "baiana," for all these movements are in fact straight forces in motion.
Great! I don't have to learn how to defend against a high kick because I can look deep on the movement! Also, it is not necessary because I already learned the groin kick :5eek: defense. It just a matter of straight force! And I have all the time to look deep in to the movement! :BangHead:

2 & 3 - If a BJJ fighter takes you to the ground or achieve the mounted position, it's all over - So again here, we have a common problem. People don't know real Xing Yi Quan. They think they know or, worse, they are conscious they don't know but they want to fool other people. And again, what people (most people) know as Xing Yi is a lie. That's why myths like this spread so fast, because almost no one out there can prove they are only myths. If these people really know Xing Yi, they would understand that XY is not based on techniques, but rather in principles.
Damn those evil sifus withholding "t3h r34l anti-gr4ppl3"! Would the real Xing Yi Quan Gong Fu please stand up?

What's so ridiculous?
He said that fat-**** wannabes and posers are giving people the wrong idea about 'gong fu'. Truth
He said that more training increases ones chance of victory. Truth
As for not specifically mentioning techniques to counter grappling, I believe that was covered when he asserted that his TMA is based on principle rather than techniques.

principle > techniques. The principle of 'looking deep into the movement' is common to most martial arts. It's like taking advantage of someone who telegraphs, but based on more subtle cues. I think his point is that if you're operating under some sort of if/then attack/counter mindset you're screwed from trying to think too much.
As fun as it is to make fun of CMA, I can't really find anything that hilarious in what he said.

'gong fu' is what its practitioners make of it. If fat-ass wannabes outnumber legit instructors, the art as such is in a sorry state.
He said that more training increases ones chance of victory. Truth
If you need to learn how to grapple, training more boxing does not help much.
principle > techniques.
Yes and no. You learn to apply specific principles in specific situations only by training those situations. And different principles apply to different situations. If all you train is striking, the principles of "don't leave your arm out" or "take away his space when you're on top" just don't apply. And there are many cases where the application of principles is not obvious, so you have to know the specific move, rather than trying to figure it out on the fly.
But the basic thing that annoys people about this article is the attitude of "we have all you need to know, and if you fail at applyig it, it's your fault nonly."

I actually agree with 1,2,3, and 5. 4 is just ignorant and stupid and the reply is just propaganda brain washing.
Tadzio has a background in Judo so 4 is technically irrelevent to his own experience. But if that's how he feels....
And Feedback is right...sort of. He's too nice to go the cement shoes route and hardly ever seems to be online these days. He does train....a LOT. I've done some push hands with him and watched him sparred.
But more importantly.....*snicker*.....he's Brazillian so he must know.
The problem right know is that since 1920's BJJ was being perfected and focusing itself in street fight efficiency, while Chinese Gong Fu, as we saw, was being modified into a kind of beautiful dance.
I totally agree with this. His article is actually pretty good for someone trying to 'speak out against all of you BJJ nutriders'. Not that I agree with what he says or even thinks it's accurate, but it's a good effort.
Wuh Wuh Waitaminnit...read #5: this guys giving us a choice between a tequila screwdriver (mma) and a glass of water (gong fu) and he seriously expects us to choose the water? These guys need to hone their rhetoric a little, imho.
