Published in the Associated Press (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/F/FIT_NFL_OBESITY?SITE=1010WINS&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT) about the "obesity" of NFL players.

Worst science ever. The lead researcher acknowledges that there are problems with using the BMI on pro athletes, especially monsters like NFL lineman (my words), but then goes on to state her conclusions anyway. What the hell?

"Well, some people think my physics research is bad because I made my particle accelerator out of tuna cans and snot, but the fact remains that I made anti-matter in my rumpus room."

Many of the people interviewed about it said something like "Yeah, you can't really look at it that way ... "

How long before this gets misquoted and misused in the media? Tick tock tick tock.

Guys like Tony Siragusa may have more fat in their body than is healthy, but you're absolutely right. In fact, the federal govt. singles out football players as a population misrepresented by the BMI scale, I believe.

"Harp acknowledged that without measuring body composition, it's uncertain how many players were truly fat, but she said it's unlikely the high BMIs were "due to a healthy increase in muscle mass alone."

nice.

It's not like there aren't more accurate ways of measuring body composition: hydrostatic, electrical resistance, etc. The BMI / chart method is either for fitness or GENERAL diagnostic purposes or for academic researchers to lazy to design a study or get the approval for more accurate methods.

Balls. 100% nuts.

I remeber when the BMI came out it pretty much said Jerry Rice was unhealthy, if thats the case I wish I could be as unhealthy as him.
