Let me set this up: When I'm lifting (I have a free weight bench in my basement) I like to have something on the TV, usually a movie. Last night, I had "X-Men" on. Now, Ray Park is in "X-Men" as Toad, one of the bad guys and he did most of his own stunts sans wires and crap (except for the things that aren't physically possible, of course). Ray was also Darth Maul in "Phantom Menace", the body of the Headless Horseman in "Sleepy Hollow" and Sub-Zero and Reptile in the first "Mortal Combat" movie.

He's incredibly athletic. He's MUCH, MUCH better than most stunt guys: smooth, powerful, calm, acrobatic and graceful. He's also a British Wushu champion.

I worked on the Jet Li film "Romeo Must Die" -- and by the way, Jet ain't 5'6". I'm five seven and I've got inches on him. But anyway, I got to see Jet work out in real life. He's smooth, frighteningly fast, acrobatic and graceful. Now, a graph with two points doesn't give you much to plot but I wonder if it does have some meaning.

Like, okay, Wushu ain't going to teach you how to fight but it'll make you very, very athletic. That's a good thing, right? You can take that and go to a real art and kick serious ass.

Any thoughts?

wasn't ray park also in LOTR as that gremlin creature?

That's excellent, I definitely want to work in or on the movies some day.

JKDChick, why didn't you just ask him for a friendly spar or something once in a while or ask him to show you some moves? He may will surprise you with Wushu (either good or bad way)... That is what I probably would do to see if someone actually learn more than just one style.

I dont care if poeple think this art isnt good or that art isnt good. If somene trains hard for years and years in any art they are going to be able to do something.

I know nothing at all about wushu, lol just saying that something has to be said for someone that trains hard for long time.

I was actually thinking this same thing a few days ago while cleaning out Shanghai Knights. Jackie Chan, he does Hapikido and a little Kung Fu, right? Hardly UFC material, but he's fast, knows how to take a hit, and at the very least has some knowledge of real martial arts. I don't care if he's not as badass in real life as he is in the movies, someone like Jackie could probably make the transition really easily.

It could make you a good fighter, as long as you trained yourself not to do it in a fight.

JC is the man, he can take tons of damage, lol just look at the end of each of his movies, nothing ever goes right for him.

He may not be a UFC guy but I am sure he can see a punch comming from a mile away, lol. Little bit of training and I would say he would hold his own easy.

I imagine in a real fight you'd put Jackie in an armbar, eventually snapping it in half like a wishbone, and he'd keep coming at you, possibly wielding his newly-dismembered arm like a stepladder.

Gollum was played by Andy Serkis, not Ray Park, by the way.

You know, I've never been that impressed by JC. As a martial artist, that is. He's a very nice man and a consumate professional. I have total respect and admiration for his work ethic and physical abilities. I just think he's more of a circus acrobat than a fighter.

Fatality, talking to Jet -- even if he talked to white chicks, which seemed pretty unlikely -- would have been near impossible since he barely spoke English at all at them time. Also, I would likely have been fired fast enough to give me wind burn.

Christ, no. If they talk to you first, it's okay -- I had a nice relationship with Luke Perry on something I did -- but you don't EVER speak unsolicited.

"Gollum was played by Andy Serkis, not Ray Park, by the way. " ah ok thanks, i was getting confused with his x-men character.

Jackie Chan does kickboxing too (a type of KB) I think, and he trains hard for the movies

I don't give a damn about celebrties either... Once orphan winfrey (sp?) husband or bf came to my school to give a lecture and everyone was going crazy and I just walk away. Celebrities are just another human who made themself famous by having bunches of make up put on them, a plastic surgery, and other craps. I have no respect for anyone like that.
