I am looking for some advice on coming back from an injury. A guy fractured my fibula doing a takedown on me. (It worked really well he took me right down) Anyway I get the cast off Feb. 4th and will be good to go in late february. My question is what I should do once I am cleared to start training again. I have never broken or fractured any part of my leg and am wondering whether I should take some time after I am cleared to concentrate solely on getting my leg strength back up or if I should maybe jump back into classes. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks.
****, I didn't know that. That' why I haven't seen you at the dojo. No advice here, I've never broken anything other than my hand and nose.

How's it healing? Hope you are not smoking.

Isn't physical therapy part of your recovery process? What do your doctors say?

Yeah Phrost I was rolling with Jimmy and he went for a takedown and his shin came down on the outside of my right leg. It made a loud pop and I screamed like a big girl. Anyway my doctor just told me when I should be okay to start again. He didn't really recommend too much as far as physical therapy goes so I figured I would bring it to the next best thing to doctors, Bullshidoka.
Listen to your body. If it feels tired, rest. If sore, stop. Don't let other parts of you ruin your recovery (heart, brain, d*ck, etc.)
Keep well hydrated.
Take a little time to see where you are at, assess how much it will take to get to where you need to be to train. And do it. Remember, if the bone has healed properly, it will be stronger at the point where it broke. But, the muscles, ligaments and tendons will need time to stretch, and regain strength and flexibility.
Use a little common sense, and you'll be back to getting beaten on the mats in no time! :tongue3:

train light, no takedowns, no leglocks for a while(maybe a month) Also, doing kicks on the bag would probably be a bad idea...
If it's resistance you want, train your legs in the pool.
Swim, leg kick holding onto the side, run with the water at least up to your thighs & deeper.
Stand in water that's waist high, and do footwork practice to shoot, or sprawl.
etc.

Sure, try and jump right back into training, you won't know a difference ;)
Seriously though, you'll barely be able to walk on it let alone train.
Take any advice and exercises your doctor recommends and perform them religiously. Since it's a broken bone and not a soft tissue injury you should have a relatively complication free recovery, just don't expect to be back to %100 for at LEAST 6 weeks.
