had to watch it again to check Im not deluded - really liked it (particularly for a 1986 clip)
my favourite is the guy in yellow trousers and and orange top (about half way through) does a very sweet XingYi type body check - short and powerful and knocks the other guy on his arse

I thought that was pretty good. Keep in mind that most fighting back in 86 around here was still point/no-touch based.

I downloaded that clip from somehwere, I can't remember where, about 2 months ago. I have another very short clip that was a bit poorly edited from the same competition. It starts with this guy going down from a heavy right hand. The ref steps in and separates them. Then the guy who got punched stands up and shakes his index finger at the other guy and his mouth is moving like he's saying something for a moment and then. . . he falls back down, unconcious.
Maybe I could email it to someone who can host it?

I kind of liked the vid as well. The music gave me a headache though, and will prevent me from ever watching it again.

my grandfather is from szechuan, supposedly where this video was taken. it's an annual lei tei competition where the locals show up and fight and the winner gets a big red ribbon and walks around town like "da man". i'm not 100% that this is one of those events, but it sure looks like it.
anyhow, for a local competition it ain't bad! i mean. this is not a national event.

I could due with less of the slappy ****. The throws were nice, and some of the sweeps and hits were good. But overall it lacked the defense and the approach strategies I've come to know in TCMA.
I wish there were more to this than just highlights. There may have been a few good gems in the event, not shown.

Lol, Whoa... i thought that too!
And what was the one in the end where the guy fell at first, then raised then completely collapsed?

What are your thoughts on this?: http://www.jiayo.com/videos/sexton/piguaquan_01.mpg
looks like a good way to dislocate your shoulder if you ask me.

So is it fair to say it doesn't resemble any pi quan you've ever seen?

Very briefly...at the beggining it says, "Shou Jie Rong Cheng Wushu Lei Tai Sai"
In English....roughyl.... Chengdu (the capital of Sichuan) annual leitai competition. 'Rong Cheng' is apparently another name for Chengdu.
The clips without the original crappy music and with less editing are on an old thread here: file:///X:/Omar/clips/Kuoshu/showthread.php.htm
My favorite is the one where the guy gets KO'd but he doesn't pass out for like 8 seconds.
The so called "pi quan" is not "pi" at all. It is much closer to a typical Baji throw or many other 'kao' type manouevers. It's the 1st of the clips I posted just now and with the original sound you can hear the announcer shout: "Shang bu kao shuai!" (stapping forward shoulder bump throw....)
