now ive heard a mixture of answers in this one but after you work out, is it ok to go eat up a storm or is it bad for you? i know that after i train, i'm usually starvin'marvin'. but is it bad for you? even if you eat good foods being high in protein?

Hmmm... Piz probably got the lowdown on this. Frankly I don't see a problem with eating up a storm (e.g. not killing yourself in the process), but just eating enough is probably a better course when you can do 5-6 meals a day.

However, I usually can't eat much at least 30mins after an intense workout.

Actually, I would imagine that eating would be better for you if your hungry. You gotta replenish the nutrients in your body after expending all that energy.

Well I didn't respond to this thread because I felt it was mildly moronic.
Blah blah blah no there is nothing wrong with it, just eat afterwards, especially since your body seems to be telling you that it needs nutrients. Replenish those carbs baby! Bananna! Wooooo!

No basis or research on this part, but it seems depending on the person and type of exercise, the person may want a lot of water or food after.

If I don't get one of those 710mL bottles of Powerade right after training my mouth feels like sandpaper for the entire ride home. That's even if I drink tons of water after class ends. The craving is usually greater after BJJ than Karate.

The research I've seen says to eat a 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein following a weightlifting session. Your muscles need far more carbs than protein in order to complete protein synthesis.

The latest issue of Men's Health (total nutrition guide) suggest the following meals following a workout session, depending on the time of the day.

BEFORE WORKOUT (any): 1/2-whey protein shake

- POST-MORNING WORKOUT - Egg-white omlette with veggies, oatmeal, and OJ

- POST-LUNCHTIME WORKOUT - Chicken-breast sandwich on whole-wheat with fruit

- POST-WORKTIME WORKOUT (as in exercising after you get off of work): grilled salmon/chicken breast/sirloin (one of these), green salad with olive-oil dressing, and wild rice.

And for reference sake, Clif Bars are engineered with the above 4:1 ratio

Clif Bars also taste like shredded tires.

You're kidding, right? They have every damn flavor from Cookies and Cream to Organic Mint Chocolate Chip. Only those high-protein Meal Replacement Bars have superior flavor, and most of those are essentially oversized snickers bars with a multivitamin and protein supplements.

Ironically enough, I was the only person I know ever to like the chocolate flavored powerbars when they first hit the scene.
