View Full Version : Lower-Body Stabilizers/Flexibility

So, I have some decent power in my lower body and good strikes. However, I have awful balance and inflexibility in certain areas. For example, I can do a rear leg roundhouse with my left leg, but not my right. Trying it with my right results in a stinging pain along my adductors (??? the ones on outside of your hips, not your groins). I can execute a great front/push kick with my right, but not my left leg.

And in some training drills where we're supposed to "break down" a roundhouse or side kick into 4 parts (chamber, kick, recoil, down), suspending the kick on either side results in collapse.

Short of holding onto a wall and executing side and roundhouse kicks till muscular failure over and over again, are there any exercises that might help facilitate progress? This is one of my weak points.

How is your stretching routine going?

I'm trying to do Wharton's Active Isolated Stretching, but I think I'm doing it wrong. I try to do all major muscles, neck to calves, 30 seconds of sinking into the stretch.

I have no knowledge or experience with that one. My rare stretching sessions involve stuff from http://www.stadion.com/

Go find the Column section somewhere on that site.

It may be genetics your problem. Most people kick better with one foot. One of my left hip's flexibility is strangely much lower than the other one... :(

How you been doing KB long? As in, has this always been a problem, or is this new?

I used to have a similar problem. I start doing the splits to stretch. Pain went away. That's my experience based advice.

Always a prob. I've generally solved it by trying to develop my punching game. Slow but steady going.

I hope it isn't genetics. :(
