Hmmm...
1. No osiris I was just asking questions, not making points, I really don't have a clue of any of this although I think I'm on my way to getting one..
2. Thanks for all the answers, now I finally know! (Sort of...) I have this friend who trains TKD at a place that also provides sambo tought by some former soviet spetznaz(spelling) instructor who fled here and Im trying to convince him to take the sambo classes instead. Any good arguments I can use except I want him to learn me? 8)

REAL tkd is accually very good, it was put together for the military..Well under the name, its just the place its in, like imagine taking a front kick to the jaw in combat boots?
that should give the guy enough time to aim the rifle to kick the guy he just kicked.
Of course people will prolly disagree with me..but even tho i do wtf, if it wasn't for teh sparring i would rather do ITF.

Basically the rules kind of suck, no kicks to the legs, I'm not sure if you can punch in the head, but they never punch AT ALL anyway, so I think there's at least a significant point difference in favor of kicks...
No punches to the head, only punches to the body are allowed. Also, 3 of the 4 "corner judges" need to see your point (each hit is a single point, no matter the technique used) or it doesn't count.
This is not usually a problem when it comes to kicks and I imagine it wouldn't be a problem for punches to the head either, but body blows being what they are, they aren't as visible nor do you inflict much, if any, pain with a punch because of the Hogu (the protective gear).
IMHO, if you want to improve your own kicks and learn how to deal with fighters who are very fast and flexible, TKD is worth taking up to complement your skills.
But what's the difference between ITF and WTF???
TKd becoming an olympic sport weakend it's traing. Now schools teach mainly as sport.
WTF is the offical sport TKD. you must be certified by them and fight by thier rules to compet in olympic competition.
ITF is a fragmented organization that teaches more Traditional TKD.
In my experience, both have suffered by TKD becoming a sport. Evertime I work out with a TKD schools I am shocked at how poorly the BB's execute techniques. some of them are good "kick fighters" but because of traning for so long under certain rules, they tend to leave thier gaurd down and not expect hand techniques to be thrown at them.
Both organizations seem to have really relaxed thier dan requierments. I met a guy who was a 2nd dan in wtf TKD, he was horrible. I trained at an ITF school for a while and I was shocked to see how many people passed the BB testing.
WTF schools also tend to lack any sort of Grappling or practicle Self defense instruction.
Basically, there is nothing wrong with TKD itself. But the way it is now taught generates much poorer quality in the students.
Does any think If the WTF were to change the rules so that a wider varieity of techniques could score, than maybe TKD might improve?
